On Thursday, October 5th 2023, Zonta District 9 took to the steps of Burbank City Hall for a press conference, spreading awareness on their campaign to end child marriage in California. Child marriage is legal in 40 states, seven of which don’t have a minimum age, and one of those seven is California. A 13yr old girl has been accepted to medical school only a year after graduating from high school. Alena Wicker shared the new in Instagram with her more than 20,000 followers recently. "I've worked so hard to reach my goals and live my dreams.  Mama I made it," the teenage posted below a picture of her program acceptance letter. The Zonta Club of Santa Clarita Valley is now accepting applications for the annual Virginia Wrage Memorial Fund Scholarship. Virginia Wrage was a dedicated and loved Zontian, mother, and grandmother who at the age of 50, faced a family crisis that resulted in a major career change. She undertook a rigorous nine-month course and fulfilled a childhood dream of becoming a flight attendant for American Airlines. Two years later, Wrage was diagnosed with cancer.
