Santa Clarita Sister Cities welcomed a youth delegation from Matsudo, Japan this past week. This visit was made possible by a collaboration between the City of Santa Clarita, Santa Clarita Sister Cities, College of the Canyons, Academy of the Canyons (AOC) and the William S. Hart Union High School District. By promoting cultural and student exchange, this helps strengthen the relationship between the City of Matsudo and the City of Santa Clarita, through Santa Clarita Sister Cities. Santa Clarita Sister Cities is proud to announce that two local students won Sister Cities International’s (SCI) 2023 Young Artists and Authors Showcase, held in Washington, D.C. Nicole Clarin of the Academy of the Canyons was selected as the international Grand Prize winner in the Essay category for her entry, “Have you Eaten,”  while Grace Lee of West Ranch High School placed third in the Digital Arts category for her artwork, “Holding On.”  Their work competed with entries from other Sister Cities organizations around the globe.  The international winners were announced durin ..read more

A big shout out and congratulations to the student winners and finalists of the 2023 Young Artists and Authors Showcase.  Once again, local students stepped up and demonstrated their literary, artistic and musical talents to address this year’s theme, “Peace by Piece: Food Security in My Community.”  The students were recognized by the Santa Clarita City Council at their meeting on June 27. Three high school students, chaperoned by a City of Matsudo employee, spent a week in Santa Clarita in March.  They were welcomed by Mayor Pro Tem Cameron Smyth at City Hall  after which Santa Clarita Sister Cities hosted a welcome reception for the delegation and their host families.  The students attended classes and various activities at Academy of the Canyons where they were welc0med warmly by the student body.  They also participated in the Sister Cities Charity Hike and enjoyed the City’s beautiful trails and open space.  It was a successful exchange and, based o ..read more

We are now accepting applications for the 2023 Young Artists and Authors Showcase.  This annual contest is part of Sister Cities International’s youth programming and gives students the opportunity to express their ideas on global citizenship and universal issues through essay, poetry, art and music.
