Yah.. It's August, but we're fast approaching into the season. If I could offer up some ideas to get prepped.
I like to go hike the areas that I ride in the winter. This allows me to see the terrain and where the avy paths are. Also, by going every year, I can see if there were significant avalanche slides over the season, that may have impacted the the terrain. To be honest, I always hope for a big avy cycle in the late Spring hoping that lines get cleared of trees.
To make it more of a...

This road is just south of Cascade and the same road for the Cabarton put in. The road is plowed all winter to access the radio towers but opens for public use after memorial day. There is a camping spot about half way up but no bathroom or water source. Up at blue lake is a bathroom but usually snowed in at opening. The pass at the top is at 8200'. There is a ton of terrain and lots of people take advantage of the opening. Sorry no pics, its been a few years since I've gone but heading...

I've recently become intrigued by the idea of a ski tour to Stanley Hot Springs (when conditions permit), as I think that it could be a pretty special spot to ski out to (and possibly spend the night at) during the depths of winter. With this year's meager snowfall and upcoming storm Hok skis might be the best way to go, but during winters with more generous precipitation, I feel like there could be a storm or two when a touring setup would do well on the entire distance from the trailhead...

I've been looking at the east side of Priest lake and it looks like there is some awesome terrain with what i would assume are fantastic views. If I don't have the assist of a snow mobile, but am willing to take a longer approach does anyone have any tips? Is the road on the east side of the lake plowed or accessible to vehicles in the winter typically ..read more
