As I write, I am praying for practical wisdom and guidance from the planets about how to handle the many storms that are raging all around—and I’m not talking about the hurricanes predicted to disrupt the lives of so many of our fellow travelers. The storms I’m focusing on are political, economic, and cultural; to name but a few—the war in Ukraine, the rise of the right wing in European countries, the likelihood of Trump selling state secrets, Republican plans to put election deniers in key positions of power, the falling stock market, the failing UK pound, and all of the local and personal st ..read more

The week unfolds with stops and starts befitting this time of ended retrogrades and new beginnings, so don’t expect to easily find a comfortable personal pace for the next few days. You could liken the uneven rhythm of regular routines to the cacophony of children banging on pots, but if you’re willing to be patient, this erratic time signature could eventually resemble an intricate piece of modern music that doesn’t jar as much as it excites and stimulates curiosity. Of course, in the scramble to get going, some things—real or imagined—could get damaged or broken, so try not to be in a hurry ..read more

It’s a bumpy planetary ride this week, so be prepared for stops and starts, speed bumps where there were previously no barriers, and pockets of turbulence that interfere. While these mini storms are not negative, they are nonetheless powerful and disruptive. We’re in a triple retrograde zone, with (1) Mars Direct, which happened six days ago, but this week is rapidly gaining momentum; (2) Mercury Direct, which happens today, January 18, and gathers forward momentum all week long; and (3) Uranus Direct, which occurs on Sunday, January 22. As the planets make their “course corrections,” daily li ..read more

I’m a note taker. To keep from being bored when I was in school (and even now during meetings) I’d jot important information, memorable comments, thoughts or, uh, damn it, what was it? Oh, and things to remember! That was it. When I did standup comedy, if I wasn’t near a portable television-sized, desktop computer, I’d jot down my crazier thoughts, experiences, and comments I’d overheard for comedy routine material. Napkins, junk mail, matchbooks, pieces of newspaper, toilet paper (don’t judge me, I was at a Prince concert), whatever I could find.
Those experiences carried over to my writing ..read more

In a week, the madness of the election process in the United States of America will be over— but even as I type those words, I know that isn’t true. The madness of the 2020 election is still very much a part of our day-to-day life and there is no reason to think that the upcoming elections are going to change the mindset behind the crazy conspiracies. Mr. Trump, who managed during his few (I want to say short, but they seemed interminable) years as leader of the free world to make hate and cruelty the guiding principle for a sector of Americans, is still doing his utmost to make sure that mean ..read more

First things first: How do you spell relief? D-i-r-e-c-t. Yes, Mercury Retrograde is over and even though it moves slowly at first, we’re likely to feel its forward motion as the coming week unfolds and an unimpeded current of activity flows easily; email gets delivered without a hitch, as do texts and voice mail. As the regular routines of daily life inhaled deeply during Mercury Retrograde, now those routines exhale deeply all week long, releasing retrograde tensions. You don’t have to hurry or push this river; you just need to navigate your course with intention.

Morag Shepherd’s latest play, MY BROTHER WAS A VAMPIRE, is a horror comedy that follows a bizarre, broken, and blisteringly brazen journey in reverse.
Siblings Skye and Callum love each other, hate each other, and need each other.
Oh, and they can fly.
For an assignment in one of my English classes in college, we had to go and see a play and write a response. I randomly chose a rinky dink show in the basement of the arts building and enjoyed it so much that I looked up the playwright: Eric Samuelsen. To be honest, at the time, I was shocked! The play was about a couple driving from ..read more
