An investigation along a Manassas street prompted a shelter-in-place for a nearby school on Thursday, May 9, authorities said.
City police said only that Dean Elementary School was sheltering in place amid an investigation along Dean Park Lane around 2:30 p.m. as a precaution for a nearby investigation.

A Stafford woman was found with fentanyl after sending her car into a ditch this week, authorities said.
Nevaeh Richins escaped injury when her blue Dodge Avenger went off the roadway and down an embankment, partially in a ditch around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, Stafford County Sheriff David Decatur's office said.
Deputy McCaulley conducted an inventory search of the vehicle and found a stuffed moose bag, filled with fentanyl. Richins admitted that the bag contained fentanyl and did not show any signs of being under the influence. The cause of the crash was determined to be speed-related ..read more

A driver was ticketed after police say she made an unsafe turn that caused a tractor trailer crash on I-95 in Virginia.
Maria E. Martin, of Triangle, was heading north in a Ford F-150 when she drifted from the center lane to the right lane around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, Virginia State Police said.
Martin, who was at the 150-mile marker in Prince William County, struck a tractor trailer, police said. She remained at the scene while the tractor trailer continued north.

A former Fairfax County Sheriff's Deputy has been arrested for assaulting an inmate in the county's adult detention center in January, police announced.
Nicholas Vaszil, 28, of Annandale, was charged with simple assault after police said he assaulted the inmate in the jail's booking area on Jan. 1, at approximately 3:45 p.m., county police said.
The Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs notified FCPD two days later, and an investigation was subsequently launched, police said.

An arrest has been made in a decades-old rape case, thanks to a lab in Northern Virginia.
Jamie Dodge, 48, of Brownville, Maine, is charged with aggravated rape and kidnapping in connection with an attack that happened in Holland, MA — which is just outside of Springfield, MA the Hampden County District Attorney's Office said. He was being held on a $250,000 bail.

Just in time for Mother's Day, OpenTable has released a list of Top 100 Brunch Restaurants in America for 2024.

A 50-year-old man from Washington DC was arrested for stealing two electric scooters in Arlington, police said.
Police were called to the 1700 block of N. Pierce Street around 3:20 a.m. Tuesday, May 7 on reports of a man, later identified as Ahmad Bilal, breaking into a bike storage room, county police said.
There, Bilal stole two electric scooters and chargers and fled the scene, police said. A lookout was broadcast and an officer located an individual matching the description of the suspect in the area.
