Road Rage Shooting

In this video, we witness what happens when two people partake in road rage. Let’s be clear, it takes two to tango. There is usually one person who is overly aggressive and wants the altercation to happen. But there is always a second person, that either hangs around too long, or also wants some action. That’s not to say there aren’t cases where someone can’t avoid a situation because he is dealing with a maniac, but that’s not normally how it goes down. In this case, the car on the right (dark sedan) is the aggressive road rager, who was upset because the SUV (white car) on the left had user ..read more

What’s the Difference Between a Full Metal Jacket vs a Hollow Point Round?

If you have went to buy ammunition before, then chances are you seen the variety of different types of ammunition you can choose from for the same caliber round. I have talked about caliber in a past post, so I won’t go into that. For today’s post, I want to talk about the bullet type. Full Metal Jacket (FMJ) A full metal jacketed round has a bullet that has a soft lead core covered (jacketed) in a hard metal exterior. As a result, they tend to have increased velocity and a more stable flight path, which is desirable for target shooting. They also will continue flying true after hitting their ..read more

How to Use A Speed Loader with a Revolver

Loading a revolver manually is quite the chore, especially under duress. You are going to be relegated to feeding one round at a time in the chamber, as you fish out new rounds from wherever you have them stored. In a gun fight, this would be a disaster. Hence, we have the speed loader, which is a simple mechanical device that somewhat simulates having a detachable magazine like a semi-automatic pistol. Just like with a magazine, you would load up the speed loader before hand. Your speed loader will essentially match the size and shape of your cylinder, and have the same capacity (typically 5 ..read more

While this isn’t exactly rocket science, I do see some beginners struggle with being efficient at loading their magazine. This video gives a simple way of loading a magazine for a semi-automatic pistol, along with an explanation of the components of a magazine for a better overall understanding. Finally, I also demo how to use a Lula Loader, a speed loader that makes the process much friendly on the thumbs and quicker. Why you shouldn’t say, “I have a gun!”

You often see in movies how people will yell out, “I have a gun!” as a means of intimidating would be criminals from pursuing further action. On it’s face, it might sound like a level headed response, showing that you have a gun but are exercising control in not pulling it out right away. In my opinion, this is a bad idea. It is a step down from brandishing (flashing your gun) as a means of intimidation, except it shows more timidity to an aggressor. We only draw our gun when we feel threatened and must take action to protect our life or of those around us. Saying, “I have a gun!” when you are ..read more

How to Decock a Revolver

When you are new to revolvers, something that can be a head scratching moment is when you are done shooting for the day, but you have your hammer cocked. While the hammer is cocked, the cylinder release button will not activate, and you will not be able to unload the gun. This causes all sorts of problems for people, as now they have loaded gun, with a lighter trigger, and don’t know how to make it safe. Some people in desperation will take their gun to a gun store and ask for help, hopefully with the gun in a case and not in hand. Others will end up taking a shot in what I hope is in a safe d ..read more

I pulled the trigger and it didn’t shoot. What happened?

Every once in a while, you may pull the trigger on a loaded gun and nothing happens. No explosion, recoil – nothing. You might be wondering what the heck happened? There are a variety of things that can cause the above situation. First off, if their is no round in the chamber, then clearly nothing would happen. But assuming we did have a round in the chamber and pulled the trigger, the second thing would be that you have a safety engaged. But if the safety was off, then we have a potential misfire. A misfire is when the cartridge is struck by the firing pin and fails to ignite. This is most of ..read more

What does a round in the chamber mean?

You may have heard the expression, “Don’t forget about the round in the chamber,” before when dealing with firearms. But, if you are new to the gun world, you might not know what that means. After all, once you eject the magazine out of a semi-automatic pistol, it’s unloaded, right? Not necessarily. In this video, we go over how to load and unload a semi-automatic pistol, covering the differences between when the gun is “hot” (ready to shoot), versus when it’s cold (not ready to shoot). To be clear, with a semi-automatic pistol, the chamber is going to be at the near end of the barrel towards ..read more
