I found someone’s surf fishing equipment yesterday ( belt, bag, accessories) that I am sure somebody is sorely missing. I found it on the side of the road near the western end on the Brookhaven side of the north shore L.I. Sound. Soo…  With the growth of the local seal population and recent articles about Montauk being a GWS birthing area, have there been any documented reports of White Shark predation of seals off eastern LI? I know there have been anecdotal reports of dead seals/dolphins with large wounds found on local beaches.   My kids and I spend a lot of time hiking both the north and south side beaches around Montauk…  In the past we’d see a seal from time to time and consider it a novelty.   This fall, gray/horsehead seals are literally everywhere. I am sure they will be posted no trespassing signs on the Long Beach jetties soon. Prayers to his family.   Authorities say a Queens man drowned off Long Beach while he was fishing on Sunday. Dozens of emergency crews converged on the beach off of Monroe Boulevard to rescue the victim.  Officials identified the victim as 67-year-old Dihou Liu, of Elmhurst.   They say he was on the rocks when he slipped and fell into the water. Owner of newly reopened tackle shop  “Warrens Tackle” in Aquabogue Long Island was arrested for “allegedly” stealing fishing reels from White Water Tackle of HamptonBays. While I say “allegedly”the security tape was very incriminating. why a tackle shop owner would steal is one question- why from another tackle shop?
