Welcome to season 13 and about 600 episodes! The Geek Girls (and occasional guy!) chat about movies, TV, awards shows, the Soupies (our very own awards), and DEI in the entertainment industry. We love Apple TV+, The Leftovers, Invasion, and The Fall of the House of Usher. One of us won't watch biopics. One of us watches horror flicks for comfort. And one of us gets teased for not liking..

The Geek Girl Soup crew dives into the mind-bending 2023 Japanese film “River,” the latest from director Junta Yamaguchi who also made the trippy time travel movie Beyond the Infinite Two Minutes.
In River, the guests and staff at a historic Kyoto hotel find themselves trapped in a recurring two-minute time loop. Susan, Kelly and Cort analyze the creative ways the characters deal with being stuck, from trying to solve the paradox to embracing the infinite redo for their personal agendas.
They discuss how River both follows and deviates from typical time loop tropes established in films like ..read more

We are so excited to have Geek Girl Amelia back with us for this episode on season 1 of “The Good Place”!
We’re doing a rewatch of this beautiful four-season show. It’s just 50 episodes, if you’ve never watched and want to now!
“The Good Place” ran from 2016 to 2020. It features Kristen Bell, Jameela Jamil, Ted Danson, Manny Jacinto, William Jackson Harper, and D’Arcy Carden. We follow four people who have ended up in the “good place” in the afterlife and how they get along with each, with the other residents of their neighborhood, and with Architect Michael and “not a robot” Janet.

This week is our second installment of our “hidden gems” theme, in which we bring you movies or shows that need to be seen by more people.
In this episode, we discuss Ava Duvernay’s “Origin” and Wim Wenders’ “Perfect Days” with spoilers. Then we discuss Tae-hwa Eom’s “Concrete Utopia” without spoilers since Susan and Cort hadn’t seen it yet.
Listen in to hear what we like about each film, why they are hidden gems, and what kind of impact the films had on us.

To celebrate all the courtroom drama facing a certain orange-tinged man this year, Geek Girl Soup decided to go to court—in film and TV, of course. Even though his trials are delayed, we don’t have to wait.
Between the three of us, we watched quite the variety of material. Here’s a preview:
The Verdict
A Few Good Men
The Accused (spoilers)
Jagged Edge (spoilers)
Primal Fear
Law and Order
The Good Wife
And more…!
We don’t spoil anything except “The Accused” and “Jagged Edge.” And those are toward the end of the episode. Given that these films are more than 30 years old (wow!), the statute of ..read more

We made it! The last awards show of the season, the biggie, the Show: The 96th Oscar® Awards!
We’ve got the inside scoop on why everyone seemed to be wearing a broach, how one best picture nominee may be total plagiarism, and who told a certain host not to share what on air.
We also discuss our moments of delight, moments of confusion, and certainly one moment of shock.
Next week: Let’s go to court! Check the end of the episode for some suggestions on what to watch in the way of courtroom dramas (even comedies or “realty” shows!).
