Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa is announcing a raft of changes, including doubling player wages, opening up the opportunity for international teams to join the league, and a move in its playing season.
When the Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa league started in 2022, players were recognised through pay parity with the NZ men’s league. For the 2024 season, payments will significantly increase for players in the women’s league.
The league is also expanding to welcome teams from beyond New Zealand, with conversations underway with a number of international teams.

BNZ Northern Kāhu are delighted to announce that Tess Madgen has joined the team and will suit up for their next Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa fixture against Whai, in Tauranga on Thursday night.
Being both an Olympian and a former WNBA player, Tess is the highest credentialed player the BNZ Kāhu have signed and arguably the player with the largest profile to have suited up in the fledgling competition.

“I’d heard so many great things about New Zealand that when this opportunity came about there was no doubt that I was going to take it.”

Northern Kāhu are delighted to announce the signing of Ella Bradley for the upcoming Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa season.
Ella enjoyed a remarkable junior career winning national championships galore with Waikato age-group teams and the St Peter’s School, Cambridge senior team.
St Peter’s won four Secondary Schools National titles and finished runners-up on the other occasion during Ella’s five years at the school. She made the Tournament Team four years on the bounce.

Northern Kāhu are delighted to announce the signing of Tera Reed for the upcoming Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa season.
Off the back of an outstanding NCAA collegiate career, Reed is returning to her roots for her first foray in professional hoops.
Reed grew up on Auckland’s North Shore but hasn’t resided in NZ since her early teens.

Northern Kāhu are delighted to announce the signing of Olivia Berry for the upcoming Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa season.
The 167cm combo-guard becomes the second Rangitoto College alumni to sign for the Kāhu.
She played at Rangitoto with Kāhu teammate Jaycin Tini and Tall Ferns Ella Fotu, Brooke Blair and Penina Davidson.
Following high school Olivia played one year in Canada at the University of Calgary (2015-16).
Away from basketball Academia is Olivia’s passion.

Tall Ferns legend Micaela Cocks has added another award to her long and illustrious resume after being named to the Tauihi Basketball Aotearoa All-Star Five.
The North Shore native averaged 18.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.3 steals on 45.3% shooting from the field and 45.1% from beyond the three-point arc during a season that has exceeded her expectations.
