Four Elevators and a Lift

I know I haven’t blogged for a bit, and I don’t really have good excuses other than my life to me at least seems boring. I just spent the last three days at the Ohio Music Educators Association annual conference. I gave a session on Google Tips and Tricks that was well received, so that made me happy. In my day to day life I have plenty of accessibility to do my job and in my home, but this trip let me know that sometimes accessibility is not convenient. I was staying at a hotel attached to the Columbus Convention center, and for me to get from my hotel to the presentation rooms it was four el ..read more

It’s officially the “Most Wonderful Time of the Year” and that means it is one of the busiest for any and all musicians. Just the day to day at school is taking more out of me, and it is a grind. I am up at 4:45am every school day, so that I am in the building by 6:30am. I am thoroughly gassed by 2:30pm. I hesitate to take a nap when I get home because I want to fall asleep at a normal hour, or I am afraid of sleeping through dinner and then what happens, so I rarely take a nap. Most days I do at least relax, and watch some TV or play some video games. That means that my days and evenings are ..read more

Neurology Follow-up

This past week I had a neurology follow-up again, finally. There is good news, and mixed news, but nothing that I would really call “bad news”. The first thing is they may never know exactly what happened this past January. Here is what we do know however. I do not have MS. Doctor was quite adamant about that several times. I have none of the usual clinical signs. There is still a very small chance it is, but doctor would be extremely surprised if it was MS. That in many ways is a load off, as although treatments for MS have come a long way, it is still a difficult to manage disease. I do have ..read more

Settling Into Life

The last month has been crazy busy. I closed on my house, I moved, and finally my car came through and I am driving again. I joked to my primary care doctor and orchestra friends that I am finally a “full adult all grown-up again”. I must say it feels good, but it has been a bit busy to blog. I still don’t feel as if my house is ready for “pinterest perfect” pictures but I am getting close. My bedroom is a nice relaxing space and I am so glad to have “my bed” back. I did get new nightstands from Ikea, and new lamps as well, I thought it was time to have some matching furniture. After all, I a ..read more

Well we always knew September would be busy, and that has absolutely turned out to be true. First off I am officially an Auntie as of earlier this week, so that is one of the “impending” things of September already done and dusted. My sister and niece are doing well and are resting and recovering at home. Finally! Next is my wheelchair is finally due to be delivered next week. I am low-key excited for this as I will have my own custom to me chair that hopefully fits me better and I can get in and out of the car easier. All of the parts finally came in earlier this week and National Seating and ..read more

Back to School

Now that I have been through a full two weeks of school I figured it was time for an update. Truth is things have been going really well, and the students are being generally good citizens. I know now that teaching from a wheelchair while not ideal in some of my classrooms is possible, and the students are very accomodating, helping me out when needed. Where they need to help me the most is in my music tech lab, which while it has been rearranged, still has some tight corners when I have a full class (I do have two maxed out classes of 26). I just tell them to budge up a bit and/or move their ..read more

Cabinets in the Garage! As the days go by we are getting closer and closer to my house getting completed. My sister, brother-in-law and I decided to take a stealth mode visit today to see how things were going. First in the garage are my cabinets and what looks like vanity tops and sinks. So that is exciting that these major pieces of my house are soon to be included. I can’t wait until they are installed because my house will really start to look like a home then as we get closer to my closing date. We went in today without informing my project manager so yeah, hence the title of stealth mode ..read more

Summer Knitting Projects

I have had one of the most productive summers when it comes to knitting in a long time. I don’t know if it was having someone to knit for (my new niece) or just because I needed diversions but I finished several projects this summer. I am also trying to keep my momentum going on knitting because it is a good outlet for me, so hopefully I can continue to keep the knitting vibes going through the autumn. Sprout Blanket- Finished in May First I finished the sprout blanket in May, and I gave it to my sister for my niece at the first shower I attended. I love this blanket, it is easy to whip up and ..read more

House Update!

I was able to get into my house today for the first time. It’s been a few weeks since I dedicated a blog post to an update on my house, and this weekend is a great time to get into it, because today I had my pre-drywall meeting and I thought it went really well. It is hot and sultry today, but we had the meeting right before lunch, and I was able to get in there. It took a lot of effort to walk on the uneven ground to get into the house but I did okay, glad I had my cane. Overall things seem to be moving quite a bit, and that makes me happy. I was also able to get some final move in dates esti ..read more
