There is a difference between the major blues scale and the minor blues scale… When we use the minor blues scale, it’s rare that we bring in much of the major blues scale… But when we lean on the major blues scale for our licks, we often pull in some help from the minor blues scale. In this video, You’ll get a really cool, new, major sounding slow blues lick, and I’ll walk you through how to learn it, and how to use it. There will be 5 of these, in total, plus a solo this week as we celebrate the release of my new 50 MAJOR Slow Blues Licks By The Box course which is available now and on specia ..read more

In today’s video you’ll see how you can put together a blues rhythm guitar part for a song that has no rhythm guitar in it at all! In, “The Thrill Is Gone,” there’s no rhythm guitar player, that I can hear, only the rhythm section (bass and drums) along with the strings and maybe some keys. Here’s how you use what’s there to make your own part… it’s pretty cool ..read more

Alright! Here’s where we get to take those 5 licks we learned over the last few days and put them together… But instead of just playing it down and leaving you to it, I’ll go through a little bit of my thought process. If you already have the new, “The House Pattern” course, this will help you in creating your own solos from the licks in the course… And if you have yet to get it, this will help you see what you can do with it Downloads: Here’s the Jam Track – MP3 Here’s the TAB – PDF   ..read more

Let’s learn another fun new lick from one of my favorite patterns, the “House Pattern.” This one makes use of the blue note, which is a fun note you can add to any blues scale… it just hits a little differently in this pattern. This is in celebration of my new course with the same name – The House Pattern is available now and on sale this week for it’s initial release at: https://bluesguitarunleashed.com/get-thp-launch/   Downloads: Here’s the Jam Track – MP3 Here’s the TAB – PDF ..read more

What I affectionately call, “The House Pattern,” is one of my favorite blues soloing patterns, but it’s one that is so often misunderstood… It’s not any *one* particular scale, or sound, and with that power comes great responsibility (to use your ears!) In today’s video I’ll walk you through the pattern and show you how to make changes based on whether you want a “major” or “minor” sound. This is in celebration of my new course with the same name – The House Pattern is available now and on sale this week for it’s initial release at: https://bluesguitarunleashed.com/get-thp-launch/ Downloads ..read more

As much as I love playing leads and solos, your meat and potatoes of blues playing is going to be playing rhythm… Whether you want to call it strumming or comping or whatever else, this is what you do most of the time… And in order to do it well, you have to have some options in your back pocket so you can listen and react to what goes on around you in the band. Here’s the jam track (MP3)   ..read more

I do an acoustic blues duo with a buddy of mine once or twice a month on Sundays at a place down in Grapevine… One day Joey pulled this out and played it and I dug the slightly country-fied version and thought I’d show it to you. I hope you have fun with it and try it for yourself. Interested in more like this? Check out Strumming And Rhythm Mastery If you want the TAB it’s here ..read more
