MAKE A ‘LATER LIST’! A ‘later list’ is a great (and extremely simple) little tool for people like myself who are afflicted and easily distracted by ‘Shiny New Object Syndrome’! SHINY NEW OBJECTS One of the perils of being self-employed and, as such, immersed in the online world, is being constantly bombarded by things that other people are doing. When we see these things, it can be so hard to resist feeling like we should do or try them too… Ideas for new things to do, equipment to buy, apps to download, platforms to learn, tech to set up, marketing strategies to try, images to ..read more

If you’re struggling to be productive and find that you’re spending much of your working days drifting and lacking focus, try this simple trick. Trust me, working feels so much easier, you’ll be so much more productive – and the biggest joy of it – you get more breaks but get more done! 1. Break up your working day into 30 minute chunks 2. Work for 25 minutes 3. Take a break for 5 minutes 4. Repeat Before you dismiss this as something too simple to be powerful, let’s look at the huge benefits of each step: 1) Break up your working day into 30 minute chunks. It’s actually very hard for anyone ..read more

Why networking is your secret weapon!

This tip was inspired by a question I received in Office Hours in my client-only Facebook group (you can join this group if you sign up to The Accelerator, The Shutterhood or any course/resource from The Library). I thought this was such a great question and so timely that I really wanted to share with you his question and my response. Simon, asked, “Networking is something I want to get into more of, but also dread and hate. I do have a great group of photographers in my area, we meet a couple of times a year and second shoot and pass referrals on, and I’d ..read more

Business lessons from Glastonbury

Last weekend I tried and failed for the fourth time in a row to get Glastonbury tickets. The first few times I went to Glastonbury, we successfully got tickets every single time, no problems at all – but in recent years, since 2017, we’ve had absolutely no joy each time we’ve tried. For those of you who aren’t aware of how Glastonbury ticket sales work – they go on sale at 9am on a specified day, and you have usually around 30 minutes (generally how long it takes for them all to sell out) to try to get through to an elusive ticket page (by repeatedly pressing ‘refresh’) where once you access ..read more

Hannah and Ryan’s wedding was the very last wedding I photographed when I stopped shooting weddings to focus on families a few years ago. For this reason (but not just this reason!) they really do hold a special place in my heart, and couldn’t have wished for my wedding career to have ended on a more wonderful note with more wonderful people. I’m so glad my final memories of that special job were with them. Fast forward a couple of years and beautiful Zachary joined the family, so I was honoured to be invited back to photograph the little dude at 9 months old. He’s such a happy, smiley baby, w ..read more

I first met Michelle and Chris when I took some photos for them when Reuben was younger, and I was so taken by how fun and loving a family they are. So when they asked me to come back to take some more photos once younger sister Rose was on the scene, (“To capture some of those memories and because our first photo shoot with you was a great experience and we loved the pics! Also, because there’s two kids and FAIRNESS. We would never hear the end of it if Rose wasn’t featured”) I jumped at the chance. Chris and Michelle have been together since high school and family is the most important thin ..read more

Sarah and Pete were mid-move when this shoot took place, and these photos were actually taken in a temporary rental property that they were staying in until they could move into their new home. I loved that this didn’t faze them at all and that they prioritised memories over the house or location being perfect – after all, the rental house is just as much a part of their family memories as any other home. They are such a lovely family, so warm, caring and genuine. It was so important to Sarah and Pete to capture the whole family together because, “We don’t have any good ones as a whole family ..read more

I loved this shoot! Alice and Chris are friends of another ace family who I’ve taken photos for a few times, so I knew they’d be my kind of people. The morning was such good fun – lots of playing, eating, cuddling, kisses, pouting (check out that pout!), reading, tickling, petting the cats and being thrown about a lot. Alice told me before the shoot, “People say Mia looks like a china doll but she’s more like a bull in a china factory,” and I absolutely loved this about her. She looks like butter wouldn’t melt but was boisterous, independent and full of mischief, fun and adventure. I also very ..read more

I’ve had the joy and privilege of seeing this lovely family grow right from the start, having first shot Bex and Piyush’s wedding, and since then documenting their family multiple times as it’s grown… Right from when Freddie was first born, and again now that Frankie has joined the gang. They’re always so much fun and I absolutely love catching up with them – they’re so relaxed with such a great sense of humour. This shoot took place right after they’d just moved into a new home. There were still boxes everywhere as they’d not fully unpacked and I really loved that they didn’t mind about this ..read more

Some ideas for Black Friday / Colour Friday!
Anna Hardy Photography Blog
by annahardy

As we’re probably all aware now from all the crescendoing noise online, Black Friday is on the horizon. As business owners it’s very easy to feel that we should be doing something for it, and it can be hard to think of Black Friday ideas for photographers, so I wanted to hopefully help you with that! First of all, I’d like to categorically state that there is no reason whatsoever why you have to do anything at all for Black Friday. You can happily ignore it completely. Personally as someone who doesn’t particularly enjoy social media, I actually find the noise and clamour of Black Friday ..read more
