because it replaces the question of effectiveness and efficiency of the governance of public matters: what is rational; important and necessary for the society, today with: what do we/ would you like it to be? What do you like?
In everyday life we know very well that what we would like to happen in our reality would not necessarily, and often by far, be the reality.
In the entertainment, the dreamscape the difference is erased, smoothly, in a blink. The wish can become and becomes, the reality. Just believe!
A natural human trait to imagine a better reality exploited for buck in any number of ..read more

Kissinger was born in 1923. Trudeau in 1919. I never met Kissinger. Trudeau was short. By all accounts, both loved to flirt with women.

First: Chairman Khrushchev, Prime Minister Macmillan, and I have agreed that high-level discussions will shortly begin in Moscow looking toward early agreement on a comprehensive test ban treaty. Our hopes must be tempered with the caution of history--but with our hopes go the hopes of all mankind.
Second: To make clear our good faith and solemn convictions on the matter, I now declare that the United States does not propose to conduct nuclear tests in the atmosphere so long as other states do not do so. We will not be the first to resume. Such a declaration is no substitute for ..read more

In the beginning, the outset the deal was simple: citizens alertness, involvement and responsibility is the necessary condition, and a cornerstone of a working, functional democracy. Wise words were spoken, quotes cited and books written. It was never the free for all, no matter what you do or wouldn't, deal.
Yet, one small thing came in the way: the entropy; the principle of laziness. Why spend energy and time, that can be spent in a more rewarding way; why read, think and analyze, make non-obvious and sometimes, difficult decisions it it runs and works already just by itself? It happens in a bizarrely similar way to the last time: the liberal elites, running out of energy and ideas, increasingly senile and impotent. Imitation and repetition in place of perpetual seeing, knowing, responding and changing. But in evolution, no one is given a free ticket. It can only be earned for a few stations, generations and then, purchased again and again to prove the viability and claim to the future.
The Time, the reality will always take care that great lectures and claims will be tested and verified for viability. There will be no inflated claims and free tickets forever.
