It’s as if a space alien brought us a message from the future. Forget the present tedious campaigns for public office, 2025 beckons us to pay attention to its news for us. This is followed by a jolt, a reminder that nothing present is a permanent state of affairs.

I say one of those Democrats because the Democrats ..read more

Some friends of ours received some annoying unsolicited advice when one of them mentioned on social media that she spotted an injured coyote wandering through their three-acre share of the hundred acres of suburban woods. “I think I know you well enough to offer some unsolicited advice. If there is an injured coyote around, it was most likely injured by a Sasquatch protecting his wild ra ..read more

Sykes in the Wilderness
Note: this first appeared in the February 8, 2024 “Life, Under Construction” newsletter.
The Bulwark is losing one of its founders. Charlie Sykes will be doing his last daily podcast, The Bulwark Podcast, on Friday as well as his last Morning Shots newsletter email. He will continue to appear on MSNBC and will continue to write, but the daily routine is gone.
Part of me says I’ll believe it when I see it. I was there the last time Sykes “retired” at the end of 2016. I believe there was cake. I know Sykes’ dog was there when he ended a career as a midday talk show host f ..read more
