just saying hello to my fellow fly fishers. fishing my whole life and started fly fishing in 2006. in 2019 i bought a house on the musconetcong so the river is in my backyard which is really great. i mainly fly fish for trout, smallmouth, carp, and steelhead. but last year i caught my first delaware river shad on the fly which was pretty cool. so hello everyone ..read more

Hit the South Branch of the Raritan early today.
As I approached Hoffman's Bridge, this was the scene at the parking area.
Notice the way the green Ford Explorer is parked... O'l triple space, A NEWBIE to KLG!
My next stop while looking for a place to wet my line was...

Hi everyone!
Hoping to get on the water tomorrow. With all the rain recently, I am concerned water levels may be too high for wading. Can anyone help me understand normal flow vs 'too much water' for these rivers? ie, what is the measurement (flow vs depth) and where to look for current flow?
Thanks so much for taking the time! Its so hard to get out these days, it would be a bummer to pick the wrong spot to head toward because water is raging, lol.

Hey All,
Typical story of "Not new to fishing but new to fly fishing" Brother in law got me a beginner setup for my birthday a short while ago (5wt 8.5'), and I'd like to give it a fair try to see if I like it. I have a few flies lying around from when I tried tenkara, which I just never found any enjoyment or luck in, as well as from mystery tackle box type things. I recently found I love going after trout after fishing the D&R for stockies and doing some catch & cooks.

Well I'll kick off the Covid-19 social distancing from last Sunday. I headed out to a NJ WTS that I fished in early December and didn't do doodely squat at that time but the water as I remembered from years back should have a good number of BT. I tied on my favorite attractor dry Humpy in color Fl. pink and started to work my way upstream. For about the first half hour or so I had no takers, but as soon as the sun got high enough to warm the ravine the fish started to cooperate.
