Utah's Green Drake Utah’s Green Drake hatch is one of the most sought after and anticipated hatches of the year. Big trout, eating big bugs in the heat of Summer is what fly fishing is all about. This mayfly is one of the biggest bugs to hatch throughout the year and brings those seldom seen big trout to the surface. Two of my biggest dry fly caught trout were during the Green Drake hatch. Provo River Blue Wings Provo River Fly Fishing Report for November 2019 on the Middle Provo River. November is starting off with some amazing dry fly fishing. The blue winged olives are going strong from about 12;30 to 3:30. The little mayflies are about a size 22-24. Going smaller (Size 24) will definitely increase your odds for success. Nymphing is pretty good especially during the hatch. Tiny BWO emerger patterns such as RS2’s and ju ju baetis have been working great. Provo River Fishing Report Buffalo Midge Provo River Buffalo Midge The Buffalo Midges on the Middle Provo River are hatching. In the midge world they are the biggest we see on Utah rivers. They are about a size 18 and black in color. Look for them in the upper stretch at around 11- 11:30. Depending on the day it can go for a couple hours. Provo River Blue Winged Olive Blue Winged Olive On The Provo River Provo River Blue Winged Olives March is almost here and that means the Provo River Blue Winged Olive (BWO) mayflies will be making an appearance. It’s a welcomed sign from Mother Nature that Winter is almost over. The BWO’s are the first mayflies of the year to hatch and also the last. Fall fly fishing on Utah’s Provo River is by far my favorite time of year. With the cooler temperatures Fall is definitely in the air and the leaves are beginning to change to crimson, gold and orange.
