When our son Eli was born, he ended up in the NICU. During the early times of his stay, I thought the stress and not being with my baby 24-7 would cause me to lose my supply. Luckily my supply increased from pumping and I was producing more than double what he needed. Eventually, due to medical complications, we had to reduce the amount of breast milk he was given. Because of the minimal volume he was allowed to have plus an oversupply, I was left with an abundance of milk. With all the support we’ve received from others I’ve tried to give back and had the honor to donate milk twice duri ..read more

With my first son, I stumbled across the Milk Bank WGL when trying to figure out what to do with the extra milk I was able to pump once returning to work. With my second son, I learned about local informal milk sharing networks and shared with several families there. However, my third son had a rougher start and spent time in the NICU; while there, he received donor milk (from Milk Bank WGL donors!) for a number of days before I was able to pump enough to give him.
I was so very grateful for the generosity of others whose gifts ensured that he was well-fed and able to overcome his medical obs ..read more

Sammy was admitted to the NICU at 4 days old with jaundice. He was given donor milk while in the NICU. Although his stay was relatively brief, experiencing the NICU was extremely formative for our family. We were immensely grateful to have the option of donor milk. When Sammy got home, he would no longer latch, despite our best efforts working with a lactation consultant. I made the decision to exclusively pump and bottle feed him breast milk. Although this was not how we thought our breastfeeding journey would go, the silver lining of this has been the ability to donate my oversupply ..read more

My son was born at 35 weeks. Fortunately, our biggest issue was low blood sugar. Bryson was also unable to latch to the breast and with the critically low blood sugars, he was started on IV fluids. When he gained some strength back we chose to use donated breast milk and he ate like a champ. We were so thankful to have this option for him. We continued to attempt breastfeeding, however had no luck. Thus my pumping journey began. From that point on I decided to exclusively pump. I have been so thankful to be able to pump enough for Bryson, as well as build a freezer stash. We were so thankful ..read more

MARSHFIELD, Wis. (WAOW) – An Abbotsford mother donated a Marshfield Clinic record 60 gallons of breast milk in only four months.
While any parent knows just how much work a new baby is, Dulce Maria Medina still wanted to go the extra mile and help other parents.
Dulce had trouble breastfeeding at first.
Once she was able to start pumping, she had more than enough milk to spare.
The family ended up buying a second refrigerator to store the excess milk, and once they were cleared to donate, the clinic couldn’t believe it.
