Billy Hartung and a few of his Broadway friends gathered to help Pittsburghers kick off your Sunday shoes, lose your blues, and everybody, cut footloose.
It had been been 25 years since the musical Footloose made its Broadway debut, with Hartung in the cast, sparking a reunion at Heinz Hall on March 2, 2024, for the “One Night Only Gala,” to support the nonprofit Center for Theater Arts in Mt. Lebanon.

The Excellence in Theatre Education Award, sponsored by Carnegie Mellon University, is presented each year by the Tony Awards. A panel of judges comprised of the American Theatre Wing, The Broadway League, Carnegie Mellon University and other leaders from the theatre industry selects the winner, based on candidates submitted by members of the public.

The Special Actors Program at CTA received a visit from the local CBS affiliate, KDKA, who interviewed the dedicated parents and their children. It was a proud moment back in 2015 when Joe Manganiello (Mt. Lebanon High School Class of 1995) appeared on Broadway’s Tony Awards telecast to present the inaugural Excellence in Theater Education Award. That moment became unforgettable for Lebo drama kids and parents when Manganiello gave a nationwide shoutout to his own favorite educator, legendary high school theater teacher

While guidelines and restrictions due to COVID-19 continue to prevent us from producing an in-person event, we will still raise the curtain (and hopefully funds) with another LIVE VIRTUAL EVENT from The Center!
