I'm considering moving my boat south for a few months this summer. I'm currently on the Lower Machodoc (Hague, VA) in front of my house. I typically fish for blues, macs & rockfish. But, I'm interested in the move to target some different species. Any intel on marinas would be great. I'd like to make runs to the CBBT and some ocean runs if weather permits. any one here ever fished the piankatank river also known as dragon run up near thousand trails campground this time of year. IM heading up there this weekend for a camping trip and lookin to fish. game and inland fisheries site says it holds chain pickerel, cats, sunfish, and crappie. Hi all,
I just started fishing for sheepshead about 1.5 years in the VA beach area. So VA has no size limit but only 4 per day. Most of the southern neighboring states does have size limit from 10-12 inches for keepers, but the quantity is 8-15 per person/day. I'm looking at the reports and pictures coming in from souther states for sheeps caught a day and it just looks totally wacked compare to VA's regulation of only 4. So what gives with VA's DWR regulation on this ..read more

Striped bass is pretty much a given as it is an ASMFC mandate. Probably effective for the May 2024 season.
Chesapeake bay and tribs.
May 16 through June 15 inclusive
19" to 24" slot, one fish bag limit.
Oct. 4 through Dec. 31 inclusive
19" to 24" slot one fish bag limit
Coastal fishery including seaside bays of the eastern shore and Rudee Inlet.
1 Jan through 31 Mar, and May 16 through Dec. 31 inclusive.
28" to 31" slot one fish bag limit

Hey! Fairly new to fishing, went out with my nephew in my new canoe. We went to Hugenot Paddle are near RVA on the James, didn’t catch anything using a variety of lures. Scottsville on the James would be closest for me or the Rivanna. How much longer is the fishing good? Just any tips in general for good spots ..read more
