I've been looking for a replacement for the new version of the SAGE LL 3 WT that I sometime last year or so. I came across a used one marked "Sage Graphite III GFL 389-3 LLB" for $350 with no sock or tube. However, it appears to be in excellent condition with stained cork being the only indication of use. I'm contemplating it and thought I would come here for input from others as to how you liked/like yours and as to the value of the rod. I buy a lot of used rods so I'm not afraid of... Hello, I had fly fished for years and quit for 20ish years. I am getting back into it now as I get a little older. Pulled out my old rods. St Croix Imperial 8/9wt. Fenwick glass, Courtland 6wt and a Browning boron 6/7wt. Picking up a New to me St Croix imperial 3wt 7' this weekend for the little streams. Got a great deal. What I want since I never had one is a bamboo rod. Found one I like a Kiraku & Co. Grampus bamboo flyrod. Have any of you folks used one of these? If so what do you think... Fly line recommendation

Long time lurker but thought I would post as a time / money saver after searching past posts for awhile. My main three trout rods are all Sage Z-Axises in different weights and trial and errored different lines for the different weights many moons ago, so out of practice on lining a new rod. Fully moving to Colorado in October and redoing my rod arsenal a bit, and bought a Scott Centric 5wt last week (love that rod). I am not sure this Centric needs a full half line up line. I want it to... Fly line recommendation ..read more

Hello, I’ve been looking the past little bit for a new 9’6” 5wt. I have 10’ 4wt currently and I’m wanting something a little bit more universal for walk/wading. Predominantly though this will be for indicators, but could used for other techniques as well. I’m open to any options except for Sage. Some options I am looking at currently: Orvis H4 Scott Centric Scott Session Winston Air 2 ..read more

The Greatest (Graphite) Fly rods Ever ... according to Team Skwala

https://skwalafishing.com/blogs/skwala-lounge/the-greatest-fly-rods-ever/ This just into my inbox so I thought I'd share here, despite no one ever wanting to debate best fly rod ever . An all-American lineup, so take their ranking with a grain of salt. I'm mostly surprised that while they can spell Swala, they can't spell Epic! Clearly politics played a part in selection as they included two Sage rods in a list of 8. Enjoy ..read more

3wt Suggestions

I'm thinking about adding a 3wt to the rod rack and looking for possibilities based on my current preference. This will be used mainly in the Driftless but possibly West given the right conditions. My go to rods for the Driftless are Taylor Z 8'6 4wt & Sage One 486. I'd like to stay with a 8-8'5' length and a similar action as those 2 4wts...if that's possible. I currently have a Sage Dart 376 that I'm luke warm about.....at best. I welcome your thoughts and suggestions ..read more

Echo Lift 763 vs?

I grabbed a 763 lift. Fun rod. Not bad for money. What would you guys recommend for small brooks where you need up to 12 ft max casts hitting paint can targets. I found the lift was soft and nice for larger streams over hand casts but felt my TMF has a more accurate tip. Don’t get me wrong. I caught fish on the rod. But less than 8ft would be ideal. Thoughts? Price not an issue. Thanks. Tim ..read more

Looking for an Orvis T3 butt section

This is a bizarre request, but I am going to give it the good old college try before I give up on an old favorite that knows its way around Arkansas, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana. My first "expensive" rod was in 2006, a wonderful mid flex Orvis T3, an 8-6 for 5 weight. I spent a long time scouting for this rod after deciding to graduate from my beginner rod (fished eight years), a St. Croix 6 weight. I cast variations of the T3 at the Fayetteville, AR Orvis shop for weeks. It has a great... Looking for an Orvis T3 butt section ..read more

Echo Streamer X review

Echo streamer X 690-4 After fishing this rod for a couple months off and on, I can comfortably say this is one of the best mid range 6 wts for wade streamer fishing. It’s a fast rod but it’s not so fast it’s not fun to cast, the rod has a fair bit of power and can comfortably throw 5 inch streamers like a ménage dungeon. The rod definitely has a solid backbone and is great at fighting 16-20 inch fish, the rod does start to struggle around the 25-26 inch mark, it’s by no means severely... What is the lineage of Winston Boron trout weight rods from BIIX till present?

Hey All, Lined a 9’ 5wt BIIX with a SA Amplitude Smooth Creek Trout (4wt but actually a 5wt as they run one size heavy). Found myself enjoying casting this set-up … nice feel and flex in the upper portion of the rod close-in and more distant … and responding well to a more relaxed casting stroke ... and putting line out beyond what I would anticipate … and never flexing the rod lower…. which I recall was reserved for dealing with larger fish. Has me wondering how Winston’s boron rod... What is the lineage of Winston Boron trout weight rods from BIIX till present ..read more
