I was always the kid with the Polaroid camera on family vacations, which of course progressed to my first film camera (and double prints of all the blurry photos…IYKYK). I had always planned to be a veterinarian, but when my plans took a left turn to obtaining my Masters in Forensic Science, I found myself behind the camera again in crime scene photography class. It was here that I learned the technical aspects and rules of photography – then naturally, how to break those rules in the name of creativity. I began photographing my own dog in an effort to make a piece of him live forever, followe ..read more

It’s National Forensic Science Week and you may be wondering what on Earth that has to do with dog photography. Here is the connection between the two and 15 fun facts you might not know about me.
1. While I always carried a camera around as a kid (and printed doubles of all family vacations, trips to the zoo, and more), I actually learned photography while getting my Masters in Forensic Science at George Washington University. Crime scene photography taught me the critical rules of exposure, composition, distortion, etc. I started photographing my own dogs using these rules, then learned to b ..read more

The holiday season is a time of joy, laughter, and creating lasting memories with loved ones. For our family, one of the most cherished traditions is crafting funny Christmas cards that feature portraits of our pets, capturing the essence of the season with a touch of humor.
The Tradition Unleashed
What began as a nice family portrait with our pets developed into a fun-filled tradition I look forward to and start planning months (sometimes a year) in advance. Each year, we brainstorm creative concepts, don festive attire, and gather our pets for a photo session that promises to bring smiles to ..read more

We lost Fletcher on Friday. I was sitting in the backyard enjoying a glass of wine Wednesday evening while the dogs played. He grabbed a pear from the tree, as he’s done hundreds of times, and I let him have it. He coughed part of it up, and apparently aspirated on it. On Thursday he wasn’t well. We took him in and X-rays showed pneumonia. We bolused 5L of fluids and thousands of dollars of antibiotics but it wasn’t enough. He went septic and passed the next morning.

We knew the time was drawing near, but we thought we had a few more months. We threw a Hail Mary and tried one more round of IV fluids and antibiotics, but after not eating for two days, your body was just too tired. You were ready. We never would be. We sat there giving you ear rubs telling you to say hi to Jake and Hannah. You fell asleep between us before the vet came in, and you never woke back up.
You were Adam’s first dog of his own, our first together as a new little family. Adam volunteered for weeks cleaning kennels at the Barking Lot rescue just so they would hold off adopting you to ..read more

It’s National Puppy Day and we’ve got a blog full of cute puppy photos for you! I was lucky enough to be present for the birth of my Saint Bernard, Puzzle. Each week after I traveled to Austin each week to photograph her entire litter and it was so much fun watching them grow! Here are a few of my favorite puppy photos from Puzzle’s birth story and first 8 weeks.
On the night of her birth, we kept watching for signs of labor, jumping anxiously every time her mom took a deep breath or shifted her weight. We ordered pizza, watched movies, fell asleep on the couch, and finally, in the early morni ..read more
