Hello! My 2004 XC70 has 190,000 miles and has been meticulously maintained! I did an oil change a few days ago like I have for the past 20 years. I installed a new Mahle oil filter and O-ring and torqued it to 25 NM. It has never leaked oil from the black screw on housing. Now it is leaking a drop per day or so. The oil is pooling dead center on the black housing cap. Why would this now be leaking? Any ideas? Thank you ..read more

Rough idle then dies after first warm start

Hello all, I have a 2006 XC70 that we love except for a few very annoying (terrifying to my wife) issues. The main one is a very rough idle 100% of the time the first warm start of the day, and at other times as well, but never at a cold start. Everyday I start the car and drive to a friends house 15 minutes away. After being there about a 1/2 hour I leave and have a hard time getting the car to idle without dying. It idles VERY rough. We had this happening about 6 months ago and we took it in for service. As best as I can recall and understand what he told me, is that one of the filters ge ..read more

Brake Pedal Question

04 XC70. My brake pedal has always been engaging lower than my Honda. Like past the halfway point. Not sure if this is normal for Volvos. I flushed the brake fluid maybe 3 years ago. It got a bit better but still engaging lower than I prefer. Does everyone else have the same situation? Could this mean that the master cylinder maybe worn out? Or brake booster maybe? Thanks in advance ..read more

2007XC 231k miles UPDATE: It reset itself and seems to have gone away! Must have been the bumps. Let's see if it stays away. Thanks all!!' Got the above error. I know there are lots of potential issues including a faulty steering angle sensor. I replaced the ABS toothed rings about 20k miles ago. It happened after driving around on some rough terrain. I have a field in my back yard and I was pulling a small 8x4 trailer to move some brush around. It was the uneven and bouncy. I didn't bottom out or anything just bouncy. Is it possible that threw off the steering angle sensor? Is it possible ..read more

2001 v70xc 230,000 miles Tried to get off a patch of lumpy ice today and the car revved but went nowhere. Couldn't tell what wheel was spinning. Managed to nurse the car off the icy patch and into the driveway but it went to limp mode. I let the car sit for a bit and seemed normal when I restarted it, but went back into limp after about 4 blocks. codes 1618 and 733. 1618 could be the PNP/Gear position sensor. 733 is a missing 3rd gear (I think). Haven't had any trouble w trans and fluid is more red than brown. Is it likely that this is just the gear pos sensor? Seems logical that if the com ..read more

Water Pump Question

Hello. 04 XC70 165k. Having coolant leak. Appears to be right below water pump. Good guess thats what it is. I might remove the TB cover just to make sure. I imagine there would be coolant trickling from the water pump. (Does WP have a weep hole or does it come from the gasket?). Anyway, 165k is not far from TB change interval so I'll probably do that too. Any other part I should replace? Any other advice on how to verify that its the water pump or something else? The last time the TB was done was at 98k. Also, any advice or reference material if I decide to do it myself? I have an ex Volvo d ..read more

Lesjofor HD Rear Springs vs. OEM

My mechanic broke my passenger rear spring and is trying to charge me through the nose to replace it. Tale as old as time. Needless to say I'll be going elsewhere and getting the parts myself... Question is... Do I just replace the one broken passenger rear spring, go with the OEM and make it easy on myself. Or, do I spring for the Lesjofor HD springs, grab a pair of them and replace both, and run those with the stock oem shocks. Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on ride height, handling.... or ever put those HD springs only in the back? I don't use the wagon for a ton of hauling but o ..read more

Rear CV joint boots 2002 V70 X/C

I am in search of rear CV joint boots for a 2002 V70 X/C. I even see my post here from 2019 from the first time I took the rear end out. I am replacing the subframe bushings and differential mounting bushings, because I do stuff like that. As I replace the axle seals in the rear housing, I would sure like to replace the grease and boots on the rear CV joints. It looks like the rear boots do not exist or they only exist in Volvo Fairy tales. Ha anyone ever found rear cv joint boots? Mike ..read more

Ideas removing broken DEM / Haldex bots off - 2005 XC70

Greetings All, I have a 2005 Volvo XC70 at ~260 k miles. Recently, I lost AWD function; I noticed that the rear wheels were not spinning driving in snow. I followed XEMODEX's diagnostic flow chart which pointed the problem to the DEM. I tried to slowly remove the two 4 mm allen bolts - moving them back and forth, but they eventually broke off anyway. I read https://www.volvoxc.com/forums/showt...highlight=1A64 and VTL had showed a method of removing the top bolt off by cutting a channel (I get that). My problem is that I don't have a lot of room to make a cut on the housing as the whole unit ..read more
