It's maiden voyage is underway.
The set up was simple and intuitive. I'm already loving the app.
But this is the honeymoon period so I thought I'd do a warts and all thread as I discover it's foibles to let my fellow foodies know how it performs as a BBQ, smoker and oven ..read more

I'll apologise right now for the awful photo quality. I didn't take it...
But I have an issue with my (2nd hand) barbecue. You can be using it just fine and then 1 of the burners (always the same one) will start to 'roar' and I'll get a flame coming out of a hole I don't think it should do.
Typically the only way of stopping it is to turn that burner off.
I'm hazarding a guess that it isn't safe when it does this, so I tend not to use that burner or just turn it off when...

I carry an extremely large amount of gluten free food with me when riding any distance which I'm bored of doing, it's bulky n weighty. I'm tired of loading it on and off the bike and lugging it to and from hotel rooms so I'm ditching most of it to give Kettle Cooking a go (for my American friends this often goes by the name of tea kettle or electric kettle).
I bought a standard size kettle to replace my travel kettle and have started an experimental kitchen on Kettle Cooking. The first...

I figured I post enough about picnics, I may as well start a dedicated topic for it. There were some others but they were quite old.
We love picnics, everything from the planning, to the preparing, packing, and the consuming, of course. This is our second one this year, and because MrsT is on a WW regimen, I had to find foods that were friendly to that. Here goes:
This was our spot, at Delaware State Park, which is a park in the state of Ohio, not the state of Delaware, but don’t let that...

Don't think this is off topic as it is about travel and food.
One of the most useful tips I ever heard was from Stewart Lee (the comedian) who said when touring a show the complete lack of clean vegetables or hot food options that aren't high fat or just cold dull mayonnaise laden sandwiches was what got him down most.
Motorway service food is bad. Hotels never skimp on the fat salt or sugar that makes you go yum when you have it occasionally (because you tend to cook differently at home)...

So my wife surprised me and said I can get a new smoker for my birthday. Hey, its the big 40, so I'm not gonna turn that offer down! She knows I was looking at Traegers and we agree that with the kid and other distractions, an electric pellet smoker just seems to be right for me.
