The group is comprised of Boatright, Heath Fields (Drums/Backing Vocals), Codey Red (Guitar/Backing Vocals) and Sam Bower (Bass/Backing Vocals). The band, based out of AL, is tearing up the hard rock charts and destroying the airwaves with their new single, “Filters” that features a collaboration with the propulsive Elias Soriano from Nonpoint. Conceptualized in the Pacific Northwest, the four piece delivers sonic melodies accompanied by propulsive hooks. YOUTHYEAR – ARTIST SPOTLIGHT AND IN-DEPTH INTERVIEW By Ralph Beauchamp Youthyear is the alter ego of the extremely talented artist, songwriter and producer, Eric Paquette. Youthyear recently released his second single entitled “21 Ways My Life Is Great” which will be featured on his upcoming EP. The song is truly ambitious. It delivers an infectious poppy feel with punky undertones. The melodious track explores a romantic breakup in a genuinely singular fashion. The light melodies and groove laden choruses hides a biting testimonial to a dysfunctional lover. The dicodemy is simply beautiful. H ..read more

SLOTHRUST/WEAKENED FRIENDS – LIVE AT THE SINCLAIR By Rick Fleck Less than two weeks since the last sold-out show I attended at The Sinclair – a venerable live music club a stone’s throw from Cambridge’s Harvard Yard – I found myself returning for the “sludgy” guitar-driven rock of Slothrust. This is a show I had been anticipating since I saw that they were making the final stop of their Of Course You Do 10 Year Anniversary tour on home turf. I had immersed myself in a deep-dive of all things Slothrust and, like the line that snaked around the block toward Mass Ave, I was anxiously awaiting the ..read more

FROM ASHES TO NEW – LIVE – TOAD’S PLACE – NEW HAVEN By Kat Gullage FROM ASHES TO NEW SELLS OUT THE LEGENDARY TOAD’S PLACE They made us sign a waiver. I’ve been to the legendary Toad’s Place in New Haven a billion times, give or take. I don’t recall them ever having us sign a waiver. It stated, and I’m paraphrasing, Shit is gonna spill and make the floor slippery so expect that you might fall and break your ass. And if you do, you can’t sue Toads and a bunch of other entities. Toad’s has a strict no moshing policy and if you participate we can throw your ass out. Moshing can occur spontaneously ..read more

GOOD KID/ADAN DIAZ – LIVE – THE SINCLAIR – CAMBRIDGE By Rick Fleck Good Kid and Adan Diaz play the Sinclair on 4/21/2024 Following a recorded intro of “Pokémon Theme,” Good Kid opened their set with one of their most popular songs, “No Time to Explain,” an energetic romp that set the tone for the evening. The crowd of mostly die-hard Good Kid fans didn’t need to be won over, but the message was clear: Good Kid were going to give it their all. “No Time to Explain” led straight into another crowd favorite, “Alchemist.” “Bubbly” followed and I challenge you to find a more aptly named song. Good K ..read more

LOTUS – LIVE – BEACHLAND BALLROOM – CLEVELAND By Eric Rauert No opener meant an evening with Lotus at the Beachland Ballroom room and I was at a sold out show once again. My usual spot stage right was packed tight, so I “settled” for an empty corner of the soundbooth (and I’m glad I did). Artists must love the ballroom, because Lotus was planning on spending two nights with us in a similar fashion to Bumpin’ Uglies. I was only able to catch the Saturday 4/20 show but you best believe I wasn’t about to skip witnessing the celebration of a traditional jam band holiday. The set was off to an imme ..read more

ME FIRST & THE GIMME GIMMES – LIVE – THE STATE THEATRE By Kerri Nelson I recently had the chance to catch Me First and the Gimme Gimmes on their tour across the country, and I was fortunate enough to see them perform at one of my favorite spots in New England—the State Theatre in Portland, ME. Interestingly, one of the main reasons I initially moved to the Portland area, back when I was just starting out as a photographer, was because of the State Theatre. However, much to my disappointment, the venue underwent extensive renovations and was closed for the entirety of my time living there ..read more

STAIND/SEETHER/ASKING ALEXANDRIA – THE BIG GIG By Kat Gullage THE BIG GIG AT DCU CENTER, WORCESTER, MA FEATURING STAIND, SEETHER, ASKING ALEXANDRIA & TIM MONTANA The DCU (Digital Federal Credit Union) Center is a typical multi-use arena with a capacity of 14,800 located in Worcester, MA. A nearby venue, The Palladium, was hosting Queensryche (without Geoff Tate), so we snagged a parking spot for $20 near there which allowed for easy in and out. I found the DCU staff and security to be welcoming and tolerant of us (well me). Tim Montana was the opener. I had never heard of him before, but t ..read more
