Like your mind and your muscles your gut needs rest and thrives from a good night’s sleep or time without food being eaten. So try to eat dinner early like 6pm or 7pm then breakfast a little later like 9 or 10am (after your exercise). This gives your gut 14 hours or more to recover and be ready to break your over night fast, commonly known as breakfast! This photo is one of the breakfasts that we offer at our wellness retreat. It is home made granola served with natural yoghurt, kefir and fruits. It is gut friendly as it is packed full of a variety of plant based foods such as jumbo porridge o ..read more

Don’t listen to social media!

Don’t listen to social media! Listen to your body It makes me frustrated and sad when social media influencers & celebs give advice on exercise or when social media cooks give advice on nutrition, just because I go to the dentist doesn’t mean I can give dental advice! Social media only gives 1 compelling side of a subject with edited & filtered photos to fit, not the balanced facts. They are misleading their audience and they should be ashamed of themselves giving conflicting ‘advice’ and confusing people into eating the wrong things, exercising the wrong way or promoting products they ..read more

At the bottom of our field, away from the house and garden, we had an overgrown pond that was full of silt. Last autumn we cleared the area and have taken 10 or more feet of silt out of the pond (with the help of a couple of large diggers!) so it is back to it’s original size and depth, naturally clay lined, when it was hand dug out a few hundred years ago. Can you spot me standing in the clay bottom of the pond? It will organically fill with rainwater over the winter and will hopefully attract lots of wildlife. To attract the birds we have mallard nesting boxes and owl boxes (not too close to ..read more

It can be onerous and uninspiring trying to drink the recommended amount of water every day. Make it more exciting by adding a slice of cucumber, sprig of mint, slice of ginger, citrus fruits such as lemon or lime or even berries. Try combining some of these ingredients to make your preferred special cocktail. The recommended amount is 2 litres of water or quality fluid (not overly caffeinated or sugary drinks). Bear in mind this is a general guideline if we are bigger, shorter, do lots of exercise, are unwell or sweat more we will need a different amount to others. A good indication of adequa ..read more
