I have a lab that I’m wanting to train some in water. Are there public places that would have ponds to train a dog? I’ve contacted wildlife resources and they said it would have to be on a WMA that offered spots for dog training and the were limited to the area given for training. Unfortunately the one place I’m close to doesn’t have a pond in the training area. Any help would be appreciated ..read more

It's time for my annual wood duck nesting boxes post! If you have them out its time to get them cleaned out and ready to go. If you don't have any out there is still plenty of time to get them built and put out. I built one last year and put it out as late as April. Got our first two new blinds delivered a couple of days ago….these skid blinds are absolutely awesome and can be moved with a 4-wheeler. If anyone would like more info on ‘em let me know. The fella that makes ‘em is a duck freak and can build them to your specs. This is the PDC 4 man…easy to move, completely concealed with top, shell and beverage holder and dog stand ..read more

Hi everyone. I have an about 5 acre flooded cypress area on my property that gets a decent number of wood ducks using it during the season. I want to build a platform type permanent blind where the woodies tend to land in the swamp. I want it high enough to slide a kayak or two underneath while hunting. My plan is to screw PT 2x8 lumber around a group of 3 or 4 cypress trees and then use deck boards to make the platform to stand on. I could use 2x4’s as rails in which to attach brush and...

The state was above average for both water levels and bird numbers. Got to enjoy several really good hunts on public lakes. Lots of competition for spots, but being retired and able to hunt during the week really helped ..read more
