I’m looking for a potent, relatively affordable load for a 20 ga 3” used primarily to shoot mallards over decoys. I heard that Apex WS 3 loads were extremely good. Anybody have experience with this load or other brand loads that perform better than 100% steel shot. I posted this before but something went wrong ..read more

I just heard about this brand and that it’s great for ducks. Does anybody out there have any experience with this load? I shoot most of my ducks at under 40 yards but I just switched from a 12 to a 20 gauge so was looking for something with a bit more killing power ..read more

I have a 2 acre pond on my farm. It has had 12 pairs of ringneck ducks on it for the last month. I am wondering why there are 24 of these birds together this time of year. They do not appear to be nesting. I love seeing them, but think it is odd. Does anyone have any information on the breeding habits ..read more

Gooday from Australia
Fair chance a lot of members on here are totally unaware of what if any hunting and shooting happens in Australia?
While opportunities do vary from state to state and duck hunting while constantly under pressure from the antis and self opinionated there is still some limited opportunities for duck hunting and Quail hunting in some states (plus possibly some of the best free range deer stalking).
The state of Victoria recently opened its 2024 duck and quail...

Well, it finally came out this week, the reason lead shot was banned. It turns out the Kraft needed it to make up the "Luchables" product line. Who's have thunk it ..read more

So I just bought a benelli super nova and will primarily use it for duck and I am looking for good choke tubes and birdshot ammo and hoping some of you guys could put me in a good direction of some that patterned well for you at around 40 yards but can be proficient give or take 20 yards.
Also I was looking at a carlsons black cloud choke tube and the two sizes for sale are mid range and long range and my problem with that is, I don't know how long, long range truly is. Like would it be...

It seems that duck hunters went to 3" magnum gun then to 3 1/2" magnum guns and even to 3 1/2" magnum 10gauge guns, as steel shot became common. Now, with more people going to Bismuth and especially Tungsten, it would seem that the long shells are both un-needed and un-wanted. Many shooters are going to small gauge, so that it cost less to shoot the expensive shot. I spent my youth hunting ducks on the salt water and only used 2 3/4" reloads, 1 1/4 oz of lead 4s, 5s or 6s. Once in a while...

I got a text today from my sister. My brother-in-law had obtained the old log book from the duck hunting club I hunted on the Great South Bay. There was an entree from 1976 where I shot a limit of Blackducks and had to spend the night at the clubhouse on the bay because the tide went so low you could not run a power boat. Back then I crossed the bay on a 24' wooden clamboat, it had a 50hp Merc with a tiller handle and pull start! In 1976 I was 16 years old and hunting by myself. We carved...
