Last year, I had a pair of Canada geese nest on one of the two islands on my training pond and a pair of mallards nest somewhere around the edge of the pond. So far, this year, the pair of Canadas show back up and nested on the same island as last year. I had a pair of mallards nest on the other island. The ducklings hatched on April 14. My close friend for over 37 years and duck hunting buddy is going through a estimated 5-6 hour major surgery today for aorta valve and pulmonary artery replacement.....he's just shy of 60 and 14 years my junior. I suppose you could say that I'm his mentor....using my loaner guns I was standing right beside him when he took his first deer and duck and I taught him how to reload.
