I am in the Midwest and I am planning a weeklong winter hot tent adventure for the end of 2024. I haven’t narrowed down my location yet but I was thinking I could hit one of the National Forests in Michigan. I would love to hear recommendations from anyone out there! Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I am looking for somebuddy to camp in the snow :) some goals would be: see the northern lights, elk and other wildlife, try tarp setups, build small shelter, make some fire and pet tiny bear cubs :3 to do this, I would visit northern Finland but we can look for other countries aswell. Maybe we even find one of those free wilderness huts...
[except icebathing and riding bicycles in snow I don't have experience in this environment]

I’m going backcountry camping where it’ll be -15c at night. I’m a small person and get cold easily so I’m worried about staying warm. Does anyone know which sweater would be warmer as a layer? The Patagonia Synchilla, or a North face fitted zip up? Any advice appreciated!

I went winter camping for the 1st time and was a bit cold with a Nemo Disco 15 degree bag on 2 sleep pads with a combined R value of 9. The 30 F sunny warm day was quickly in the teens after sundown & the low was 4F in the early am. I know my bag was not warm enough. With layers of clothes on and putting the bottom half of my bag in my zipped up Rab parka, I did get sleep and it was not horrible but not great either. I am going again in about 10 days and was thinking of putting a smaller zero degree Kelty mummy bag I already own inside the Nemo Disco 15. I tried it on the floor at home an ..read more

I am going on my 1st overnight backpacking to winter camp. I tried practicing on a day hike with my stove & a pre-packaged dehydrated meal and it didn't really agree w my stomach. So, I am thinking of taking some sliced leftover chicken or beef and then making instant mashes potatoes and adding grated cheese and a pat of butter for dinner. I am wondering if anyone had advice on this related to food storage and reheating. I obviously don't know the temperature range yet. The forecast is probably a range like high 40 and low of 15. Should I use a small ice pack near the food? Ir maybe an in ..read more
