With that Irish Examiner article(https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...QFnoFCI4BEAE&usg=AOvVaw3yf4bP0wFb0dLe8W8iusUw) about bears, markhor, takin and Asian cranes coming to the park in 2025 it makes me wonder how probable it is at all. There doesn't seem to be enough space and while they might expand, the deadline seems to be next year. While it is more... Future plans ..read more

As part of my research for my latest planet zoo project, I’m interested in how the set up for the orang/siamang exhibit at Dublin zoo works. I believe that there is the main Orang house and a separate Siamsng house but I was just wondering if anyone could let me know how/if they keep the species separate from each others houses? Hopefully that makes sense ..read more

Visitors to Fota Wildlife Park during the school midterm are in for a surprise as the East Cork Attraction has added endangered reptiles, eye popping amphibians, fluttering butterflies and exotic fish to its collection as part of their new Tropical House. The Tropical House is a €700,000 development which was part funded by SECAD (South & East Cork Area Development) and has taken just under 12 months to complete. The development is also home to a state of the art veterinary facility... Fota Wildlife Park News ..read more

A new park will open this Friday in Burnfoot co. Donegal. They have Brown Bear, Wolves, Lynx, Wild Boar, Barbary Macaque in large wooded enclosures and other smaller species and Wilfowl. It is set in 23 acres of mountain forest very near the Derry border. It has been a bit under the radar till now but I have heard that it looks great and have seen videos and pics and intend to visit soon. Almost all species held were native to Ireland in times past and are rescued animals ..read more

Good breeding results from this very new and fast improving zoo. They have already been successful with Fishing cat and Jagourundi, so maybe the Aardwolf and Tayra pairs will be next. http://www.meathchronicle.ie/news/r...ns-and-corsac-fox-cubs-arrive-at-tayto-park ..read more

As some members may know I spent the week 17-21st October on work experience in Fota wildlife park, I thoroughly enjoyed my week so I thought I'd give an insight into it. Sunday 16th: I headed off from home in Wexford in the early afternoon stopping in Waterford for Dinner. We arrived in Cobh around 6 pm we purchased a train ticket for the week and I stocked up on essentials such as Coke and Maoam sweets . Fota had organised for me to stay in a families house a few minutes train away from... Work experience ..read more

Having seen recent posts in the Ireland forum and having noticed it particularly over the last few months, I feel it important to give a brief overview of zoos in Ireland today. The number of 'zoos' in the country has sky rocked in the past few years mostly due to a new licencing act which required many former pet farms to rebrand. Many of these collections receive little to no attention on here. Dublin Zoo, Phoenix park, Dublin Opened: 1831 Size: ~70 acres Number of... An overview of Irish zoos ..read more
