Design shows, projects galore and lots of good things kept me away from my keyboard last month and resulted in the writing delay!  All is now back on track, and I’ll aim to keep all on schedule for the rest of the year. Thank you to the readers who reached out wondering if they had missed their monthly journal in their inbox. Apart from my colourful and layered designs I am known to be timely, which means if I am even a few minutes late for a meeting or an event, colleagues and friends think they have the wrong date / time in their calendar. A wise woman, Sarah Kravet to be precise, on ..read more

Springing into Style

I left the house wearing a wool cardigan coat one day only to regret it several hours later as the rain began to pound down.  March found me, in addition to dodging weather and not having a clue what to wear, designing several foyers and staircases. The foyer can seem to many, a transition space to pass through, to me it can (and should) be the anchor point in a house’s design scheme. It’s the first impression, it sets the tone, the stage and offers insight into what you might find beyond. No matter how diminutive or grand, I always feel that a foyer should be a place to welcome not simpl ..read more

Springboard for Future Things

I find that during the month of February I begin to start thinking of spring and all that she brings with it. I start thinking of what I want in my planters, what herbs I’ll grow in my garden and what pieces are missing from my closet and what my travel plans are. February welcomed a surge of design enquiries, and shopping on our site’s Studio Collection, and so I know I am not alone in using this month as a springboard for future things. I think we often take our cue from mother nature, whilst all looks still and quiet in the garden, things are being hatched and awakening from their winter ..read more

I wanted to personally say hello and thank you to all our new subscribers. It’s so lovely to see our numbers growing and knowing that what I write about resonates well with you all.  We know everyone’s inboxes are at capacity, so we send one newsletter per month, on the last Friday of the month. It’s that simple. Here you will find some of the thoughts and contents of my head, I write the whole newsletter and select all the images myself, and then Christina puts it all together and makes it all look lovely! We share insight into my design travel trips, sneak peeks at our projects and wha ..read more

I love writing the final newsletter of the year, it allows me the opportunity to look back as well as look forward, and it ties everything up nicely (rather like a beautifully packaged gift) and draws work in 2023 to a close for me and the team. 2023 certainly had a lot of forward momentum, my travel itinerary for both work and personal ramped back to up to pre 2020 levels. It was so good to connect with everyone again and to meet new people with shared values and see so many beautiful things and places.  I’m ending the year with my creativity feeling at an all time high and I am so looki ..read more

When I was living in Scotland, American Thanksgiving (Black Friday to be precise) was something that you’d see on the BBC news at night – normally throngs of people stampeding into a store to buy huge tellys on massive discounts and we’d all watch rolling our eyes, drinking our tea, eating digestive biscuits, bewildered at the sheer madness of it all.  Roll on many years, with our population becoming more mobile and our world becoming smaller due to the internet, it now seems like we all celebrate American Thanksgiving even if it’s just with our shopping habits (hopefully without the s ..read more

This is where the inspiration came from for the first image above, anyhow I digress…They say what doesn’t break you, makes you stronger so I am going with that mantra and let’s just leave it at that!  Hello October, may you be kind and a little more linear is all I can say.  I don’t think a day goes by in the studio where we don’t all learn something; such is the pace and the complexity in what we do. Sometimes it’s a new team member who hasn’t experienced something before, other times it’s the whole studio.  Next year, actually why wait, from October 1st I am going to keep a ..read more

September I always find brings back structure and an easier sense of rhythm, yes traffic is busier and there is more congestion to deal with and less chance of grabbing a table at your favourite restaurant last minute, but I do like a more predictable week with everyone at their respective desks answering their phones and emails. I like things in their place and that includes people. I’m excited for the cooler days, the open windows, and the need for layers. It’s truly my happy place. I love to reconnect with my jackets, jeans and knitwear that has lain dormant since May. We all look better dr ..read more

A Colourful Salad Inspired Summer

I love a budding spring and a crisp fall, even a chilly winter is fine with me, but summer (always) falls last on the list. Am I the only one I sometimes wonder? Summer is always heralded with much fanfare, but I prefer the company of her cooler sisters. My skin is fair, and my Scottish heritage wasn’t built for, or accustomed to lots of sun and I love clothes, I love layers – jackets and scarves and proper socks, I loathe the little socks that summer brings that slide off my feet multiple times a day.  But here we are in the height of summer, with high temps, humidity, and this year a ..read more
