hello, I was wondering if anyone could offer some guidance into Turkey Hunting around Bozeman or Helena MT. I am in the area for a family event and really want to complete my turkey slam with a Merriam. I have access to hunt some small peices of property but i dont think they really have many turkeys. Has anyone had any luck in Helena National Forrest or knocking on doors in those areas? Are they any birds in those areas? The distribution map(dated) posted by Montana Game and Fish shows that...

Needed to just get away for a few days, so I came over to the east side to do some prairie dog hunting. I've killed a good number of ground squirrels, but this is my first time with these critters. It's all a new adventure, and I'm figuring this trip is a learning experience, and I'm kind of paying my dues, but I'm already having a good time. The ground squirrel shots have been 25-75 yards predominately, but so far this game is 100 yards plus. The bright side is the dogs are 4 times the size...

My buddy and I are applying as a party in Montana. He is the leader but says he did not get a party number,,,which is hard to believe. He says it might be his Automated Licensing System (ALS) # but it doesn't work.
How do we find the party number so I can apply as a party member?
Do I or he need to call Montana F&W for the party number?
Thanks, John ..read more

The US Fish and Wildlife Service staff was displaced from the Bison Range when the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes
reclaimed the refuge in 2020. Since then, USFWS employees have been stationed on leased tribal land.
The current proposal is to develop the Montgomery Waterfowl Production Area with a $12 million office complex.

Although mallards overwinter here, I've noticed many more now that the ice is gone.
Saw a huge flock of pintails yesterday, but most ducks are colder-weather mallards, goldeneyes, etc.
I did see a pair of canvasbacks and some snow geese yesterday ..read more

Myself, wife, and daughter are headed out to primarily hike/see the Grand Tetons and local area. We have 5 full days to plan out. We are staying in Victor, Idaho except for last night(Bozeman to catch flight home next morning). Thought process is to spend 2 or 3 days in Grand Tetons, 1 or 2 days in Caribou-Targhee, and our last day in Yellowstone as we head to Bozeman to catch our flight home the next morning. Any suggestions on must see things/hikes/places to eat or have a drink, etc...
