The before back when the cottage was still a two car garage! The during! Post-demo, with new framing going in. What started as an old two-car garage in 2023 is now a guest cottage on our property here in Tennessee. We’re opening it up for booking this March and are so looking forward to a summer of welcoming folks into the magic we’ve found here. When we decided to do this kitchen renovation, we knew it needed to feel full of character and personal to the property it sits on. If you’ve seen our New Orleans kitchen renovation, you know we’re no strangers to taking some risks in kitchen design ..read more

Making The Cottage Stairs

Our vision for the Chanterelle Cottage—the guest home on our property in East Tennessee that is this close to being ready as a vacation rental—was to bring old-school charm into a home that is basically a brand-new build. When it was time to design the stairs that lead from the living room into the tiny attic bedroom, we knew it would be a great spot to bring in some tasteful drama and colorful opulence. As part of my mission for old-school charm, I knew I wanted a runner on the stairs that borrowed from the colors and patterns of vintage Persian rugs. And what better way to bring h ..read more

Say cheese! The ducks were weary of the snow at first but eventually embraced it! Hello and welcome on back to the blog after a couple of months of hibernation! We’ve been busy at work renovating our guest property to get it ready for your summer visits, and launching our Substack, so the blog has had to take a nap. I’m happy to be back in the new year with a new experience to share: our very first snow! After spending almost a month back home in New Orleans, we arrived to Tennessee bleary-eyed from a long drive at 11 p.m. Wednesday and knew the day ahead had one goal: to prepare for what f ..read more

Probably This Picks: Lowe's SpringFest Sale

Here at Probably This HQ (our living room) we’re huge fans of Lowe’s and there’s a good chance on any given day that we’re gonna find ourselves shopping online or in-store. There is something very cathartic (I’m serious) about perusing the aisles of tools and the garden center. It’s like, when I’m at Lowe’s, I can find a fix for anything in my life. Don’t tell my therapist, psychiatrist, dentist, or husband that I said that, please. I saw they were doing a seasonal “SpringFest” sale to celebrate spring and it ushered in memories of all of the outdoor projects we’ve done that started at Lowe ..read more

The French Alps with Club Med La Rosière

This post is in partnership with Club Med, all opinions are our own. This past week Matthew and I hopped on over to La Rosière, France, ready to explore the French Alps and make Club Med La Rosière our home away from home for five nights! We didn't really set many expectations (we’ve come to learn going in without them always results in the best experience!) but we couldn’t help but be excited given we know Club Med has a great reputation being the pioneer of the all-inclusive. We flew into Geneva, Switzerland and took a shuttle alllll the way up a big ol’ mountain to the village. As the shut ..read more

What is Delft Tile: A Look at The Chanterelle Cottage Kitchen Tile

I have once again reached the stage of a renovation project where I whisper to myself in the shadows: “I am never doing this again.” But, we know how that goes. Every project inevitably ends up being more exhausting, more expensive, and more time consuming than I could ever imagine. And even with all of the gratitude in the world—and I have heaps of it—there are still times when the negativity creeps in. Whenever that happens, I always find myself rescued by a circumstance or special something that reminds me of why I started in the first place. Receiving this tile in the mail is what resc ..read more

A Wildflower Cottagecore Wallpaper fit for the Chanterelle Cottage

When my husband Matthew gave me permission to put my body and soul into our guest cottage (figuratively, don’t worry), I knew I wanted to take it as an opportunity to express my love of whimsy design and going a little over the top. Allowing each room to unfold for our guests as they walk through, like the chapters of a book. When it was time to start thinking about the upstairs bedroom design, I knew I had an opportunity to really adhere to that vision: this bedroom comprises the entire second floor of the cottage, so it is completely disconnected from the rest of the house. It is essentiall ..read more

The Chanterelle Cottage Exterior Paint Colors

My husband and I are nine months into construction on our first ever guest experience, The Chanterelle Cottage! That’s long enough to make one whole human baby! To be honest with you, it’s absolutely been one of the most challenging projects we’ve ever tackled in our years of home design and renovations. It’s our first major project on our property here in Tennessee, and so I felt a lot of pressure to ~ get it right ~ since it’s kinda gonna set the tone for the whole property. And the biggest scariest decision was picking an exterior paint color. We really wanted something that would do as li ..read more

Pride month is winding down and now’s my time to shout it to anyone who will listen: support queer makers this month and all year round! So often queer businesses get their press and sales during June when everyone wants to be seen supporting the LGBTQ+ community, only to have that praise diminish once the month is over. There are so many incredible, high-quality, and even mission-driven LGBTQ+ small businesses to shop from for all of your home needs, from linens to lighting to decor and furniture—and we’ve rounded up our favorites here! Give the list below a look, if possible give the busine ..read more
