Pt. 1 — PEEL“peeling fruit for someone is a sign of tenderness, love.” -Jane Wong I was recently listening to a few Podcast interviews with John Dolan, an amazingly talented wedding photographer. If you haven't heard of him already, go check out his work.  In one of his interviews, he said something along the lines of how he “photographs with a writer's attitude…” He sees storylines playing out all around him and he attempts to document it all with a narrative approach.  When I'm reading books, sometimes a phrase or line will jump out at me in a super visual way. I've started comp ..read more

the importance of personal work as a photographer My film scans typically land in my inbox around 4:45 or 5:00pm. My lab must have some kind of system where they only send out files at a certain time of day. After a quality-control check, I assume. This means that I am usually cooking dinner when they arrive, my phone lighting up with the always exciting “The Black and White Box sent you…" I cannot tell you how many times I've been looking at scans while stirring a risotto or topping a baked mac & cheese with panko or chopping up some cilantro for tacos, my grimy fingers excitedly scrol ..read more

I packed up my favourite film stocks - Portra 400 & Gold 200, grabbed a deck of vintage cards and headed to this sweet property on the Hibiscus Coast, near Auckland. Displaying Portraits And Family Photos On The Wall Boosts Your Children’s Self Esteem Growing up, my Grandfather was a professional family photographer. He had his own personal darkroom so he would make prints and send them to my parents. Without fail, they would frame and hang those photos up throughout the house. It seemed so normal to see ourselves proudly displayed on the walls of our childhood home. But looking back, what a gift - to have a gallery of ..read more

Is your baby too old for a newborn photoshoot? The short answer? Nope! Any age is the perfect age for a session.   Sometimes you don’t feel like having a photoshoot right after giving birth - and that’s ok! Postpartum is an emotional time, to say the least! Hormones are raging, you’re sore….everywhere…and sleep-deprived to boot. Having your photo taken can be a scary thought.
