I just picked up my first ever Volvo. It's a 2012 S60 T5 with 41,000 original miles from the original owner a 93 year old women. Is there anything I should do as for as maintenence? From the paperwork I got when I bought it, it looks like everything has been done and kept up to date. Your thoughts are appreciated ..read more

Oil burning stopped

I purchased a 2013 T5 with 110,000 miles on it. Everything was great except for 1qt of oil every 600 miles. After 10,000 miles I was frustrated. At first I was afraid I had a engine with the bad oil control rings. Reading more I saw posts about the gear ratio being so high the engine rarely gets the RPMs up so the oil control rings get clogged as a result. So I did a double attack on the oil issue. 1 qt of Kreen solvent for 500 miles and then Chemtool B12 soak for the pistons, rings... Oil burning stopped ..read more

2014 V60 Catalytic Converter Issues

Hi - I'm not remotely mechanically inclined in regard to the gasoline engine so any assistance anyone may offer will need to be dumbed down to grade school speak. I have this 2014 V60 with about 115,000 miles on it. There are two codes, the PO 420 and the PO 430, causing the Check Engine light to illuminate. I have a quote of $4400 to replace the two catalytic converters. I really don't want to do this inasmuch as the car isn't worth much more than that. I've confirmed the repair place... 2014 V60 Catalytic Converter Issues ..read more

Blower fan replaced, but noisier than the old one used to be. Normal?

Hi again, and sorry about bringing only "bad stuff" to the forum, but I'm just that unlucky! Hopefully I am learning enough to share with others later.... So, I had my blower fan replaced on a 3rd party warranty because of "cricket noise", picked up my car today and I think the whining is excessively loud. Is this something that I would have to expect or is this plain wrong? A video that illustrates the difference in volume between fan and the whine (which I believe comes from the motor)... So, Last night while driving through a grocery store parking lot, my car just stopped. No engine, no lights no power anywhere, completely dead. Popped the hood and checked to be sure the battery cables were securely connected which they were. While doing that, my wife stated the lights had come back on. Got in the car and it started perfectly fine. Drove back home about 3-4 miles with no further issue. Did a bunch of reading online about the issue and reading about the fusible link. This... 2013 S60 positive battery cable fusible link issue ..read more

Next to no heat!

It was -11C today and on a 12 mile drive to work the heater hardly got warm, even though I turned the temp to max it just blew lukewarm air. I know that modern diesels use less fuel so there is less heat produced by the engine , I had a Citroen firms car which only got warm at the end of an 18 mile trip to work. There is no temp gauge on my V60 1.6 diesel so have to check if its getting up to temp with an IR termometer, just wondered if this is normal or I should replacethe termostat ..read more

‘13 S60 T5 Thermostat Housing Bolt Torque

Title, I can’t find the torque spec for them anywhere. Alldata doesn’t have it, and the volvohowto site only specifies temp sensor torque.. which doesn’t even apply here, it’s pushed in and clipped to the housing. I went by the previous torque specs on older models of 17 nm, not ideal I know but I need the car running. Was hoping to find the accurate torque specs so I don’t end up with a coolant self-changing car. Thank you in adv ..read more

Retrofit Paddle Shifters 2016 S60CC

Hello Volvo-Friends, I searched in this forum and only found people who retrofitted their "older" Volvos (pre 2015) with a steering wheel with paddle shifters. My S60CC (MY2016) did not had this option specced. Now I found a steering wheel with the paddle shifters from a XC60. Is it possible to replace the wheel that easy? Are there the plugs on the steering wheel base prepared from the factory when you dont have the option ? Does it work without coding? It would be nice to get more...
