Hi, Are there any plans to provide HTTPS? I get that part of the charm of this site is the simple nature of the forum software, but while (for the sake of argument) 25% of users might be tech-savvy and would welcome the extra security, 25% might be technophobic and not know that they are sending their email and password (which may well be shared with other sites) in the clear on public WiFi, for example. There are free HTTPS certificates available from LetsEncrypt, and all modern web servers support HTTPS. I'd be happy to help with the transition, if necessary. Thanks, Bruce ..read more

“ In his new book, Dark PR: How Corporate Disinformation Harms Our Health and the Environment, Grant Ennis — a lecturer at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia — identifies the “nine devious frames” that corporations such as automobile manufacturers and road builders use to advance their interests, manipulate the public and maintain a status quo that harms human health and the planet. Dark PR is a thought-provoking book that shines a light on the tactics used by major industries to lock in an unhealthy, unsafe and unsustainable status quo. Ennis offers some food for thought for safe stree ..read more

Yodhrin on "Ebikes & powered trailer legality?"

I've been mulling over a powered trailer DIY project for picking up decent sized loads of wood, but when idly checking the pricing on a proper Carla powered trailer(yowza, DIY for sure) I found one retailer claiming it's illegal to use a powered trailer with an ebike as under UK law despite both being legal 250w motors it counts as being combined into a single 500w one once you hitch one to the other, which seems extraordinarily dumb, but not so dumb I'd put it past our lawmakers. Is that actually correct, because they don't specify a source and a casual google hasn't turned anything up, but y ..read more

Mentioned a few times on the consultation thread, but deserves its own - esp as consultations today and tomorrow at the PnR (also online). I had cause to drive along here yesterday. Both me and another cycling colleague couldn't work out why it is not open to cyclists. Notwithstanding the fact that there are large signs telling you that cyclist are not allowed on this stretch of road - are there any logical/practical road safety reasons why cyclists can't use this otherwise excellent direct road into and out of town ..read more

“ A A new report published today (Tuesday 28 November) from the Scottish Parliament Cross Party Group on Sustainable Transport calls for the Government to take urgent action to decarbonise Scotland’s public transport network. The report finds that a country-wide transition to zero-carbon buses, trains and ferries would allow Scotland to become both self-sufficient and a net exporter of alternative fuels and associated skills and expertise. “ https://transform.scot/2023/11/28/new-scottish-parliament-report-calls-for-government-to-capitalise-on-scottish-expertise-and-wealth-of-renewables-to-deli ..read more
