Last winter was my first season hunting in Arizona. I'm mentoring my 13 year old son so not actually hunting myself (yet). We had some luck hunting quail in the area that got burned in the Bolder View (Tonto National Forest) fire and it looks like that area is now (understandably) closed. I'm completely new but have taken a hunters ed course and I have my license, but my problem is that I just want to hunt for something like rabbit, I've been struggling with finding land to do that on, I also don't think I know what I'm even looking for in terms of where to go. New to hunting and just want to start somewhere. Been a long time coming. Planning on camping near Pena Blanca lake (Coronado Forest, 36b). I have read through the the game and fish manual which seems like endlessly and from what I get, I can take my .22 and go for small game that are in season (I have a small game license). I was driving by a few weeks ago and saw some campers out there, but the large rock formations looked intriguing for ground squirrels. Has anybody hunted ground squirrels up there before? When I lived in Commiefornia I had permissions at 4 wineries to hunt ground squirrels and it was a blast. I hunt using a PCP air rifle....Great fun.... Thanks Tony P ..read more
