Hey all, Long time hunter, but first time turkey hunter here. My wife had family in Creston. So I’m going down there at the end of April for a visit and have decided to stay a couple extra days to try my hand at getting a turkey. I’ve already spoken with a couple local landowners and got some permission to hunt, but I don’t like how close everything is to neighbouring houses in the valley. I’m not looking for any local secrets, but does anyone know of any larger landowners that allow hunting or any good spots to start on crown? I’m inclined to start on the west side of the valley as it seems ..read more

Hello everyone, this is my first ever post on this site! I'm from Surrey and just turned 18 a bit ago and can now hunt alone legally. I've gotten my CORE and purchased a Diamond Infinite 305 compound bow. I want to try and hunt some turkey this spring and was wondering if anyone had any tips? This will be my first time ever hunting. I was planning on trying to shock gobble a bird in the early morning around the castlegar region. Was wondering if anyone had any tips or hunting methods? Any hunting spots would be great aswell and very appreciated ..read more

I'll start out by telling of my pheasant knowledge, growing up in north Burnaby in the mid-50s there were pheasant in our neighbourhood, it was still had bush , in fact my friends captured a cock with a gunny sack . My only other bit of pheasant knowledge was one of my Ladner high school chums said his lab would get disgusted with him when he wouldn't shoot hens on their farm. This was mid/late '60s . What areas in the province have pheasants now. I gather they are not common now ..read more

hi all, i have started training a new pup this year and am anxious to get out there in September for some upland hunting. Pup was born July 2, 2023 and have had her in the duck blind this season. she is steady to the shot and we have been solidifying her retrieve. forced fetch has started. I am based in the lower mainland and am looking for dog training friends. I have access to a couple sections of land to plant birds on this spring and summer in Pitt Meadows and would love to train and experience watching dogs do their work. let me know if this is of interest to any other bird doggers. I've ..read more

My BC bird season is done so I'm packing up the truck and the pooch (english pointer) and I are heading south. First stop is the Idaho side of Snake River before moving onto Nebraska and Kansas pheasants. I only have a couple of days in Hells Canyon so have been e-scouting areas similar to where I run into local chukar but the area is huge and it's a little intimidating. Anyone been down that way? Given the temps, I assume I'll be looking at lower elevations closer to river but would love some opinions on that. From what I'm seeing on the contours, the land flattens a bit as it approaches the ..read more

I am looking into the pheasant release sites in Alberta and am wondering if anyone has gone to one and what their experiences were. I am looking to get a young hunter into upland birds and my pheasant hunt as a kid at my uncle's old property in Alta was the reason I got into hunting. Any info on upland birds would be helpful. I am thinking Alberta is the closest that I could make a simple trip out of and keep the costs low. Thanks in advance. Chopper ..read more

As I prepared to wander back from the snowy middle of the Province (Merritt) upon completing my final shift of the season, I called a Buddy down in Vancouver. He informed me that the weather was fine down that way, and invited me to wander out for a pheasant hunt with his new pup if I had the time to spare. Time to spare?? Absolutely! One of the finest things in life for me has been working with a good dog for upland game. It is something that I VERY MUCH MISS, and I certainly wasn't going to pass this opportunity up! Made the dash down the Coq - horrible driving conditions! That shot r ..read more
