“Heat, humidity, and strong headwind. All the fun.” I’ve always wanted to visit Texas and they happen to host a famous Ironman race, so why not do both in the same go? Let me first start by staying it’s fantastic to have a direct flight from Toronto to Houston. The race venue is in The Woodlands, which is about 30 minutes north of IAH airport. I stayed at the Westin Hotel, which was very expensive, but everything was in walking distance, so I really enjoyed it. I flew out on Wednesday, did athlete checkin, and built up my bike. On Thursday, I did a test ride to make sure everything worked, and ..read more

An unforgettable experience in the sunshine state.  My journey to becoming an Ironman formally happened in November 6, 2019 when I signed up for the 2020 edition of Ironman Florida (IMFL). I gave myself one year to train for it. I’ve been asked this many times, “why Florida?”.  I’ve always seen Florida as my second home, I have a lot of family on my dads side that lives here. IMFL is the race I wanted my first Ironman race to be at. I also just felt a “calling” from my heart to do this one. But we all know what happened in this time frame. A pandemic came through, and while all the r ..read more

“No killer training days. No crazy volume. Just consistent training.” – Coach Miranda Tomenson This was my second year in a row racing here in beautiful Welland, ON and Niagara Falls and I’m always thrilled to support local races!  Total surprised Personal Best for me! While not an exact 70.3 distance, we had to endure a 2km swim, 87km bike, and 20km run. I honestly was not expecting anything spectacular as I did not do any insane hero workout or massive volume. I just had a really rare and fortunate consistent build with no injuries, missed workout, or illness. Very grateful!  Last ..read more

IRONMAN 70.3 Muskoka 2023 – Race Report

This was my third time racing here in Muskoka and it’s always fun and convenient to do a local event!  However, there was no PB today. I didn’t have a good proper build up to this race from a bike crash 2 weeks prior. I got a bunch of road rash, bruised left side of body, and a broken bike frame! I was absolutely devastated. Because of this, I missed out on a handful of key training sessions, and came to this race just grateful to get the start line.  The RACE: [Official Time: 06:03.17] SportStats: https://www.sportstats.ca/display-results.xhtml?raceid=128814&bib=86 SWIM (1.9km ..read more

Hello! Haven’t posted in a while. Summer training went well. I got my dream tri bike and did a lot of training over the winter. And I just did my first triathlon race of 2023!  Back in Milton, ON as an opener to get the motions of a triathlon in play for the rest of the season.  The RACE [Official Time: 01:55:08] Swim (750m) – 18:48min @ 2:30/100m  Even though I increased my Critical Swim Speed (CSS) over the winter significantly, I am still finding it difficult to translate to open water. My legs still sink, even in a wet suit. I need to work more on my kicking. Today my bran ..read more

What a day, what a race! In my final race of the 2022 season, the Toronto Waterfront Marathon always lives up to the hype, and this year was off the charts. This race will always hold a special place in my heart as it was my first marathon back in 2018.  The level of spectator and cheering stations truly made this a world class premiere event! So how’d it go? I ran a new personal best with 3:34:01! I smashed my previous PB of 3:39:36 and That’s a 5:35 mins PB! After my crazy season of triathlons I had doubts this was going to happen. With three 70.3s and a full IRONMAN triathlon just a f ..read more

“Sean Chin, YOU ARE AN IRONMAN.” – Mike Rilley The words I have been dreaming of hearing for the last three years has finally come to fruition! Thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way. I am thrilled that my mom and dad attended and got to witness me crossing the finish line. I am forever humbled and grateful. I am beyond happy and satisfied for this extraordinary experience at this magical race venue in Mont Tremblant, Quebec, Canada. The race didn’t go fully the way I wanted with some really dark places and emotions, I will describe below. But I did something not many people can ..read more

Mont Tremblant 70.3 2022 Race Report

After a long yet scenic 6-hour drive to Montreal, Quebec, it was time for the second race of the season. This time for the iconic and hot ticket race IRONMAN Mont Tremblant 70.3! I have two “A Races” this year, and this is one of them. This will be one of a few redemption events for me. While I did complete Muskoka 70.3 in 2019 within the overall 8:30 hour cut-off time, I was such a weak swimmer and incredibly novice cyclist. I never rode a bicycle in my life until the age of 30, yes not even as a kid. I fell so many times learning and my primary training was all indoors on Zwift, where I deve ..read more

Race Report: First Attempt at IRONMAN = DNF
Sean Chin

Definitely NOT the post I wanted to make…Today was not my day. Mother nature won. My first attempt at completing an IRONMAN in Panama City Beach, Florida ended in a DNF (Did Not Finish) from the ocean swim. The first 800m felt really good. I gave it my all, but not too soon after, I just felt like something was off. I was putting in the effort I trained for, but wasn’t going anywhere. The rip tides and waves were legit. I knew I wasn’t going to make the swim cut-off, I was asked twice by the kayaks if I wanted to call it quits, but refused. I did not give up or quit on my own will. But after ..read more
