Although I've been aware of this film for some time, I haven't been that interested in the news. The last attempt to develop the Fantastic Four was a disaster. But Entertainment Weekly has rounded up every piece of information they can find for this article. The URL I'm using leads to a syndicated version of the story on MSN. Everything we know about Marvel’s “Fantastic Four ”movie ..read more

2 Scientific Studies Suggest Dyson Spheres May Exist

A Dyson Sphere is a huge object constructed in space to absorb as much energy from a star as possible. A full sphere would engulf the star (at something equivalent to 1 Astronomical Unit, the Earth's distance from the Sun) and block its light from the rest of the universe. But scientists have imagined infrastructures on that scale that could allow light through - like rings, grids, and swarms of satellites. These artificial environments could allow an advanced civilization to exist and thrive for potentially millions of years before its star becomes unstable. Until now we haven't found a way ..read more

The best roundup of the history of the Tolkien film and TV rights

People occasionally ask me who has what rights to various aspects of J.R.R. Tolkien's works. I've always had to hedge my answers because I don't really follow these details. VentureBeat published a great article that explains the history of the rights and how they pertain to current productions. There were a few details in the story that I wasn't aware of. The intellectual property map of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit ..read more

Why didn't Aragorn drop Gollum off in Lothlorien
Science Fiction and Fantasy Community Forums

By his own admission Aragorn went under the eaves of Lorien on his trip to Wood Elves' realm.  Why didn't he leave Gollum there?  IRL Tolkien hadn't fleshed out Lothlorien at that point (I believe it was actually set further west).  And LOTR was just a continuation of The Hobbit and its readers would be more familiar with the realm of the Wood Elves. Storywise, however, would there have been a reason that prevented Aragorn from leaving Gollum in Lothlorien.  Did Galadriel or perhaps Celeborn forbid it?  The only reason I could think of is Gollum's presence in Lor ..read more

The Associated Press is reporting that Peter Jackson and Andy Serkis are collaborating on a project tentatively titled The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. Long-time fans may recall there was a fan film that was simply called The Hunt for Gollum. I don't know of any connection between the projects. Here is an excerpt from the AP story: [ Peter Jackson & Andy Serkis Collaborate on Film ] Andy Serkis is going back to Middle-earth to play Gollum in two new “Lord of the Rings” films. Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group’s Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy said Thursday that Peter Jackson, F ..read more

I finished watching The Last Immortal (starring Zhao Lu Si) a couple of weeks ago. Took me 3 attempts to get through it. I haven't written my review yet because I've read several reviews that said the show was connected to (or set in the same world as) 2021's Ancient Love Poetry. It took me several attempts to get into this show as well. Both of them start out slowly. These are Xianxia ("Immortal Heroes") shows. The protagonists are gods or immortals (or both). I don't know how much of this is based on real ancient Chinese mythology and how much is just made up by the authors who concocted ..read more
