Why should Apartments go for Rooftop Solar? Cost Savings: Rooftop solar installations can significantly reduce the common area electricity bills for apartment complexes by generating their own clean energy. With solar power, apartments can offset a portion of their energy consumption from the grid, leading to substantial long-term savings. Additionally, government subsidies (PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana) for rooftop solar installations can further lower upfront costs and accelerate the payback period for apartment complexes. Environmental Impact: Solar energy is a renewable and clean ..read more

About the Solar subsidy scheme – The Central Govt. has launched the PM – Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana through which residential customers (Individual homeowners) can install solar rooftop system on their premises and avail the subsidy (or Central Financial Assistance – CFA) directly from the Central Government. To facilitate this scheme, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) has developed a ‘National Portal (NP)’ for the registration of applications. The whole process from submission of application to the release of subsidy/CFA would be implemented in online mode through this portal ..read more

Precautions to take before connecting Inverter to Battery When you are connecting any Inverter to the Battery (thru the fuse), you would have noticed sparking as shown below. You can also check out the same in the below video. This sparking happens because the capacitors in the Inverter try to get charged but there is too much power flowing from the Battery. However, many people are unaware that this sparking can have disastrous consequences for both the inverter’s capacitors and the Li battery’s Battery Management System (BMS). Furthermore, the spark itself is a safety issue because it has ..read more

BESCOM SRTPV Policy for FY-23/24 BESCOM has released the policy for Grid connected Solar Rooftop Photo Voltaic plants (SRTPV) for the fiscal year 2023-24. This policy will be effective till 31st Mar 2024. Here are the highlights: No more PPAs for Residences till 10kWp Now, when you submit your application, which includes the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), you automatically receive approval to start the installation work for domestic clients who choose an SRTPV system under 10kWp. You will save time and effort by doing away with the necessity for a separate PPA execution. No more waiting for ..read more

SPD – Working, Construction and Which voltage to select (280V or 320V)?

Contributed by: Suraj Kumar HS 280V Vs 320V AC SPD Introduction Surge Protection Devices (SPDs) are devices that are used to protect electrical equipment against transient over voltage (TOV). TOVs often come from one of three places: the grid side (like in a load-shedding situation or switching at the local substation), or the load side, which could be caused by heavy motor loads (such as elevators, compressors, etc.) or a lightning strike. These spikes usually last about 1 – 30 μs and could reach 105 Volts depending on the source. If exposed to such high voltages, electronic and electrical ..read more

Need for AC earth pits in solar installations?
EcoSoch Solar Blog
by Venkat

We do not need to install new AC earth pits for solar projects since the existing AC earth pits would suffice (if they have been designed properly to handle the fault current). In a solar installation, we are not increasing the overall AC current in the AC circuit. Before solar, if 10A was flowing in the AC circuit, this entire 10A would be supplied by the Grid. Now, after solar installation, 4A would be supplied by Solar and the remaining 6A would be drawn from the Grid. Thus overall only 10A would be flowing on the AC side. Since current is the same, the fault current too would be the same ..read more
