Spohn Ranch Skatepark

The City of Cedar Rapids’ Riverside Skatepark will embark on an exciting new chapter in 2023. When flood control improvements necessitated the skatepark move south to the top of Riverside Park, Spohn Ranch’s professional experts, innovators behind many of Iowa’s premiere skateparks, sprang into action. We began our process by conducting an assessment of the skatepark’s existing obstacles. Originally installed in 1999, the steel ramps were nearing the end of their safe and functional lifespan, thus Spohn Ranch recommended the obstacles not be moved to the new site and instead, a new skatepark s ..read more

With steps, rails, walls and pads, the plaza section mimics the types of urban plazas skateboarders seek out in metropolitan cities. The concrete pump tracks on either side provide a unique riding experience for all wheel types, uncommon in Arizona’s skateparks. Spohn Ranch’s skatepark craftsmen spent a successful summer in North Dakota, adding 2 concrete skateparks to North Dakota’s limited skatepark landscape. The first project was a design-build effort in partnership with the MHA Nation in White Shield. Designed for the community’s Native American youth, we kept the skatepark design simple with a beginner-friendly bowl and a handful of street elements around the perimeter. The second project added onto our 2019 design-build project at the Rydell Skatepark in Grand Forks. The highly-anticipated second phase completed the vision by doubling the squ ..read more

The City of Pasadena, California approached Spohn Ranch in 2020 seeking advice on some minor improvements to their existing collection of steel/Skatelite ramps at La Pintoresca Park. Upon evaluating the ramps, Spohn Ranch recommended the City replace the ramps and upgrade to concrete terrain. From there, Spohn Ranch engaged with local users of the existing skatepark via social media and solicited their input regarding features and layout. That design input directly shaped our skatepark design process and resulted in a modern refresh of the space. A 6,000 square foot rectangular design canv ..read more
