The City of Cedar Rapids’ Riverside Skatepark will embark on an exciting new chapter in 2023. When flood control improvements necessitated the skatepark move south to the top of Riverside Park, Spohn Ranch’s professional experts, innovators behind many of Iowa’s premiere skateparks, sprang into action. Upon entering “The Deck” via a skateboard-lined archway, riders are presented with multiple options – a beginner pump track, an intermediate pump track and a tiered street plaza. With steps, rails, walls and pads, the plaza section mimics the types of urban plazas skateboarders seek out in metropolitan cities. The 11,000 square foot concrete skatepark is a permanent tribute to the life and spirit of Medina skateboarder Luke Nelson, who tragically passed away in 2017. The City of Pasadena, California approached Spohn Ranch in 2020 seeking advice on some minor improvements to their existing collection of steel/Skatelite ramps at La Pintoresca Park. Upon evaluating the ramps, Spohn Ranch recommended the City replace the ramps and upgrade to concrete terrain.
