My dream bass tone <3 How should I get it?

This dude's tone is the closest what's in my mind as ideal bass tone: It's not clanky with a lot of string buzz, not too much distortion (if there's any), and it growls! It's an old video and he doesn't reply, so I don't know what's his useing. Any suggestion how to get this tone? Compression, overdrive/distortion, or just EQ and good bass setup ..read more

My new bass (Rockbass Vampyre) and a few questions!

Hi there! I bought this used rear beauty yesterday for kinda cheap. I have a few questions, hopefully someone can help me out. 1: One problem is that the active EQ has somekind of flaw. Turning the treble pot doesn't make a differenc in sound. Is this a typical flaw? It could be a bad soldering or pot? 2: If the EQ pots are in center position, it mean's that the bass sounds like if it's passive? 3: These MEC pickups are passive. This means that they could work fine... Read more ..read more

Fender 2001 Standard Jazz Bass V and Pickups ??

Last year I got a 2001 standard jazz bass v. This is my favorite playing bass I have ever held and after ~13 months, I have realized that even in making some pretty heavy stuff I prefer playing the jazz bass by a mile to my Jackson (24 frets, 35", soapbars with active/passive/both coils/single coil switching and a 3 band eq - I almost always prefer the most modern specs but still love my jazz bass more) and dealing with the scale is no problem with a 145. I am going to college in the fall... Read more ..read more

I played a streamer 5 string a few months ago at a local store and its been in the back of my mind since. I found this recently and since this has a similar vibe as the streamer, I went for it. I believe its a 2001 based on the serial. It feels well played and sounds great. My first experience with the emgs. They sound good, although maybe a tad mid scooped. I kinda wish it had a mid control/frequency sweep knob in the preamp but I can kinda get around with the current knobs as is. Read more ..read more

Pitchshifting a bass from A to F#

Has anyone used a pitchshift pedal/feature on a modeller to play live? My current bass (34" 5 string currently in drop A) can't really handle my current band's tuning(drop F#), but I wanna see if anyone made that work before swapping basses, and if so what worked best ..read more

So on a 5 string TRBX 505 bass, if I want to tune to Drop C/ Drop C#, 34 inch scale? Do I make it so the lower string is a C or an A? Considering I will only use common store brand strings. I won't order any ultra thick string from another country just for this. Is there any common brand set that's thick enough for A in 34"? Or better to just settle for C lowest string, and if so, what gauge set. Now I'm using Daddario ProSteels 5 string set, the pink one, can't remember the gauges. Second... Read more ..read more

Darkglass B7K Ultra vs Microtubes 200 amp

I couldn’t find any comparisons of these two, so I’m hoping someone has some experience with them. I want to get something for headphone practice, and i was going to buy the B7K Ultra, given that it has a cab sim and headphone out. But then I saw that the MT 200 is essentially the same price. Is there some functionality, in terms of EQ, switches, etc, that I would be missing if I just did the actual amp? I want something that can range from clean to distorted, and it looks like both do that... Read more ..read more

https://www.korg.com/us/products/tuners/pbxsbass/ My peterson tuner handles low notes no problem, and to be honest, the clip-on tuners seem to do okay in a quick pinch too. Seems to average a bit under $100 ..read more

Bass head suggestions (or just buy a Model feT)?

Our (not-so) trusty, crusty Peavey XR400 PA Amp that was doubling as a bass amp shit the bed this weekend. We were looking to upgrade it anyway, but now it has to happen. Bassist is currently running a SUNN 200S which sounds great but it just doesn't have the kind of headroom we need. I've been looking at the GK700 RB ii (I read the first gen had some overheating issues) and GK 800 RB, currently have an offer in on a 700 RB ii, but I'm curious if there are any other options I should think...
