Im very pleased to present to you my photos from the day I spent at Tropiflora Nursery Florida in January 2020. Feast your eyes on possibly the most amazing Bromeliad collection in the world. They need that Caution tape! Luckily I was allowed to pass it.  Wow, Whopping Inflorescence!! Tillandsia funkiana x dasyliriifolia Tillandsia beutelspacheri springs to mind. On this day in Florida with my wonderful hosts, Joe and Betty we visited Fakahatchee Reserve.  I will start with some photos and add/update text as i go along.  The trees were covered in Tillandsia fasciculata, in stretches along the roadside especialy as we drove through the swampy areas.    Images above and below. I think this is Guzmania monostachia, native to Florida, i'am told a variegated form has been found in these swamps. But im not getting in there with all those Aligators! I just love growing Bromeliads. I enjoy growing the plants well until they look at their best - their full potential. Its not always easy.  Here is  Neoregelia 'Big O' A wonderful small (but chunky) growing hybrid of N. 'Damask Rose' and N. olens. And comes to us from Lisa Vizant in Hawaii. Another fantastic Aechmea nudicaulis. This one is a wild collected form found by Rafael Oliveira near Sao Fidelis, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil. This plant is tall and thin and has speckled and silver-banded leaves on bronze green base colour.   ..read more

Aechmea nudicaulis 'Frosty The Snowman' seed parent Aechmea nudicaulis var. aequalis. Pollen parent Silver Streak naudicaulis. Other seedlings from the same grex include 'Candy Cane' and 'Santa Calaus'. It is a wonderful Aechmea hybrid from Liza Vizant in Hawaii. It shows the characteristic indents on the leaves that all Aechmea nudicaulis varieties have. It is heavily banded in silver streaks and has a great habit.  ..read more

Still on my 4th day in Florida. We stopped off to get some refreshments at the Famous Robert is Here, Rare and Exotic Tropical Fruit store where you can purchase such delights as Canestel (Egg fruit) Carambola (Star fruit) Jack fruits and Guanabanas (Sour Sop) Sapote and Sapodilla. Then to our second nursery of the day an Orchid nursery called R.F. Orchids. In Homestead. (First 3 pictures) Set in beautiful landscaped gardens this multi award winning 50 year old nursery was breath taking.  Below, a giant leaved Orchid Bulbophyllum phalaenopsis.  Everybody must love Vandas.
