I should have known that. I wonder if shifted directly to park right after starting and it runs then a carb issue but I'm at a loss passed that. Why a load by putting it in gear at idle would cause it to die baffles me. Would too lean of the idle mixture cause that? Statistics: Posted by ward 57 — Sat May 25, 2024 12:27 am ..read more

Does it sputter or does it just die? I'd check your wires and connections in the ignition system. Putting it in gear may be jostling something. I chased an ignition issue for over a year and replaced everything but it turned out it was a failing coil resistor which would fail with any vibration. I was looking around EBay and found a Rotunda R1-A NOS filter for sale. Since I was not going to spend the $800 dollars, I started to wonder if anyone out there has tried to duplicate the Rotunda print on the filter? The present OFS says the factory filters were either black or blue. The filter for sale states it was from the Detroit production in 1964 and is black. The picture shown makes it hard to figure out what the size really is. I was thinking if I could get the actual dimensions I could try to replicate the stamp. The Rotunda image inside the oval is a registered trade mark. I was thi ..read more

G'day. I am in the process of fitting the air conditioning back into my 63 hardtop. I have nearly obtained all the necessary parts, one of the last one's is the condenser. Looking at the parts manual, on page 582 it shows a part with the number of 2A884 which is attached to one of the lines that run from the condenser to the pump. In the text catalogue I can't find what this part is. It does have a asterisk in front of the number which denotes that it could be one of three things and it may of been deleted. Does anybody know what this part is? Karl. Basic # 2A884 doesn't show up in the '68 ..read more

Rusty, I was in auto glass for many years back in the 70’s and have done 100’s of doors from the 50’s and 60’s. There is nothing wrong with manual windows vs electric. In fact with manual cranks the pressure and flex on the regulator from hitting the up and down travel stops is much less. After some 70 years of use naturally there will be wear in areas you can do nothing about such the pins at the scissor points. I think your approach is the best with replacing rollers and making other adjustments and repairs where possible and all moving parts well lubed. Your 1/4 turn on the handle before th ..read more

The bedding or setting tape is available at some of our Thunderbird specific parts suppliers. Seems like 2 different thickness were used. 4 ft lengths are well under $10 each. Statistics: Posted by Joe Johnston — Fri May 24, 2024 7:12 pm ..read more

I’m in the same boat as you, and the number of moving parts is overwhelming to me. Also, the door lock is fussy about unlocking with the key. I’d be happy to farm it out to a professional to fix, but who would be a likely resource, an auto glass shop? A body shop? As far as the sticky lock, with the window down there is just enough room to stick the straw of a can of PB Blaster down in there and lube up the lock mechanism. A good flashlight will let you see where to spray And also behind the rear window channel. Made a big difference in my driver's lock that was dry from use. Statistics: Pos ..read more
