I have a 1964 TBird. The car has the original 3.0 differential, not traction lok. I swapped the original 3-speed FX transmission with an AOD from an 80's Crown Vic. Non electronic. Now I want to change out the differential gears to a higher ratio, something around 3.5, to improve acceleration, while still being able to keep RPMs down to 2000 or so at 70mph. When I do the swap, will a traction lok fit into the housing ..read more

Howdy. Got a 1970 T-Bird 429 with DOVE heads. When I bought it, it had outstanding power, but had a significant dead-spot/sputter when accelerating…ran well once you got past the dead-spot/sputter. Couldn’t figure it out, so I put in a new Summit 600 cfm carburetor and new points distributor from O’Reillys. And there is absolutely no change!! Any idea what could be causing the trouble? Also, anyone know how many turns the vacuum control valve on distributor should have via 3/32 allen... 429 Dead-spot/sputter ..read more

Got a couple of electrical schematic symbols from a 1970 Ford reference that are confusing me (I googled the crap out of it to no avail). Any idea what they are? They are highlighted…one has concentric circles and rectangle at the end of a wire and the other has a squiggly line at the end of a wire. Thanks for any help ..read more

Having a hard time putting harness wires on engine side of firewall. Car runs fine with the parts store ignition I rigged-up on the fender just to see if it runs. Problem is that I can't seem to get the wires back in place properly to work off of the car's actual ignition the way it is supposed to though. I have provided photos of the connectors coming out of the firewall into the engine bay. Anyone know what is what? Also, A/C is deleted to make things easier and I'm using a JEGS... 1970 Thunderbird 429 Thunderjet - Electrical/Ignition ..read more

1967 tbird transmission shift problem

When I start my car, immediately it will jerk forward, it will not go out of drive. If I try any gear its trying to go forward, unless I crank the wheel to the left which i can then go backwards a little. With the engine shut off, then it will roll back until the park gear catches, if I shift out of gear with the engine off it will roll free until I put it in either reverse or into drive (if its rolling back and put it in drive it stops, same thing vise versa.). Recently I had noticed it... 1967 tbird transmission shift problem ..read more

Engine swap

I took my 302 HO from my rusted 87 mustang and put it in my 88Tbird 5.0 EFI because it has a bad head gasket. The HO ran good along but now it's in the Tbird, it won't idle without playing with the gas. I also swapped the ECMs since the two have different firing orders and my new distributor from the EFI as well. The timing is a tad off because it will spit if I give it too much gas. Should I try to keep it running and play with the distributor till it idles then dial it in? Any ideas... Engine swap ..read more

I have a low mileage 1972 Ford Thunderbird that needs front rotors... I had these turned but it stops like complete crap, shimmying etc. I rebuilt the whole front end, so everything is new but these rotors. When it is hot outside it is much worse. I think the rotors are turned too thin. I can not locate a pair of rotors for this car or any part numbers. I am tired of returning rotors that say they fit my car and they do not. I have a pair of rotors from a Lincoln that fit all the way up to... 1972 Ford Thunderbird front brake rotors ..read more

Howdy, got a 1970 T-Bird with 429 Thunderjet and Autolite 4300 carburetor. Anyone out there know which vacuum ports on the carb are metered/timed? I have the Ford Service Training Handbook for the 4300, but doesn't provide the info I'm looking for. Also, if you want a digital copy of the handbook, just ask and I'll send to you. Thanks ..read more
