World Refugee Day is commemorated every year on June 20th. It is an occasion to honour forcibly displaced people around the globe; celebrate their strength, courage, and resilience; and build empathy and understanding of their plight. Canadian Lutheran World Federation encourages prayer for those who have had to flee their homes and those working for justice and peace for refugees and displaced families around the world.

For generations, the summer solstice has held special significance for many Indigenous communities. In 1971, the Anglican Church of Canada honoured this tradition by designating June 21 as “National Indian Day of Prayer”, a day to celebrate the gifts of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples across Canada. This day, now called the National Indigenous Day of Prayer, was officially added to the Church’s liturgical calendar in 2010.

Sunday, June 9th at 1:00 pm PDT Celebrating 100 Years of Deep, Bold, Daring
Join a worship service to kick-off a year-long celebration of the 100th anniversary of The United Church of Canada. The 100th Anniversary kick-off service will be held at Metropolitan United Church in Toronto. It will also be livestreamed on The United Church of Canada’s YouTube channel.
