Meet Alex.  If you’re at all involved in or with Dad Club London, you already know him.   The boyish charm. The dark rim glasses.  The complete lack of facial hair. The creativity and artistic abilities. This guy’s got it all! This complete package of a man randomly emerged out of the shadows two and a half years ago by simply dipping his toes into the water and getting involved in DCL. He quickly cannon-balled head first into everything that this mystical and magical group does. Alex was instrumental in figuring out how lost we were in the areas of graphic design, website ..read more

I love everything about Father’s Day! The warm weather, the yard work, the upcoming end of the school year, and the handmade cards and gifts from school. But this year, my heart is drawn to my own father who passed away last fall. My dad fulfilled the stereotype of the blue-collar, hardworking, immigrant man who spent most of his waking hours working to make ends meet and provide for his family. He worked long days, weekends, overtime, and even took odd jobs for extra cash. We always had a stable home and food on the table. But it came at a cost – we didn’t get to see much of our father. I le ..read more

“No daddy, I don’t want to wear that. I want to wear my dinosaur shirt.” “Nico, the dinosaur shirt is in the laundry. Let’s wear the doggie shirt.” And as the words slipped out of my mouth, I already knew I was in trouble. My three year old throws himself to the ground, limbs flailing, tears instantly coming down his cheeks, his breath heaving, and when he finally catches enough air, he turns to me, mouth open in complete agony, and then his shrill cry of NOOOOOOOO echoes throughout our otherwise peaceful town. Welcome to my life with a Threenager. Don’t talk to me about the mythical Terrible ..read more

A love of reading

One of my most cherished evening routines is reading in bed with my sons – especially after a long day. I crave the cuddling, share the excitement of a treasured tale, and I almost ALWAYS give in to “Can we read one more book, pleeeeease?” I was never an avid reader as a child nor did I have a passion for books. I grew up watching way too much TV and reading wasn’t something my parents fostered much. So when we were preparing to be parents, I spent a lot of time – and money – filling shelves with worlds of wonders. Classics, favourites, popular authors, feel-good stories, and every type of di ..read more

Members, supporters, fellow dads in the struggle reading this from wherever you are. It's been a while since you've heard from us. Our apologies on that. This pandemic sure is a heck of a thing, isn't it? We have spent the last 22 months in the midst of something our world has not seen in just over 100 years. It's been hard. Really hard. In the interest of public health, measures from experts have required us to take as much of this burden on individually as we can manage. And we're doing it. We are listening to the experts and doing what needs to be done to keep ourselves and our families sa ..read more

Eight years ago today, we met our humble beginnings. DCL President Jeremy McCall and Co-Founder Mark Burke invited Rob Mugford and Andy Askew out for wings and playoff hockey at the now defunct Summerside Wild Wings, and the idea for Dad Club London was formed. Boy, what a journey it's been For those wondering, here is the boxscore for the game we were watching. This fateful meeting led to a remarkable journey. One in where dads came together despite race, social class, sexual preference, religious and political beliefs, and so many other dividers in order to unite on our commonality: wanting ..read more

2020 is over. The hardest year of many of our lives is in the books. A few words commonly used to describe it? Scary. Lonely. Overwhelming. Boring. Awful. Difficult. They all apply to so many people in so many different ways. But we did it. And we did it together. In normal times, we would've had our Annual General Meeting and year in review at Palasad on or around December 31. It would have been a chance to get together for a Dadcathlon event, followed by a year in review summary, the awarding of the London dad hall of fame award for 2020, and a chance to look forward to some plans for 2021 ..read more

Toilet training trials

"Daddy, I’m going to pee on the chair.” Before I could register exactly what my 3-year-old was saying, a gushing Niagara-style stream poured from his pants, onto the brand-new, white dining room chair, and trickling down to the floor. All I could do was grab my child and run to the bathroom… now creating a lovely trail of aromatic urine from the kitchen to the bathroom. Oh, the joys of toilet training! If you’ve had an easy time training your child, please refrain from ever speaking to me again. And if you have golden training advice for me, you can flush it down your toilet. There is absolut ..read more
