In a day and age where almost anything can be delivered to your door; not many people know that massage can be delivered to your home too! Mobile massage is when a therapist brings their massage set up to your home and sets up for a session in your living room or spare room. No driving or waiting in the lobby for you! Why you don’t want to start your relationship with a therapist this way. This article is written with a bit of gest and sarcasm because the best way to approach frustrating conversations is to make a point with humor and exaggeration. Many people reach out to me as a massage therapist really excited about their events, music festivals, 5K runs, cycling races, fundraisers, etc. They love emailing me all about this great event and who is coming before they ask me if I want to participate, at no cost, to them. Its an email all about the great ’opportunity’ to get customers and ‘exposure’. “I have ..read more

ELMT recently introduced cupping to our home practice. In this article we will give you a little history on cupping and talk about how it works today. Keep in mind western use of cupping is relatively new and studies are still ongoing. Cupping originates from traditional Chinese medicine practices. The use of fire cupping with bamboo or glass cups is the traditional method of cupping. Fire cupping is when a flame is introduced to heat up the cup and air inside before placing it on the skin. As the cup cools, the air pressure changes and creates a vacuum. Often the cups are left in place for a ..read more

Being a traveling massage therapist is an interesting experience. I love getting to meet people in their own environment and get to know them and their health and wellness goals. As a therapist that specializes in medical and sports massage, the populations I serve may need the accommodation of a therapist coming to them for multiple reasons. Some may be homebound due to health conditions which limit their mobility. Many may be balancing a hectic schedule or finding the balance between child care and wellness routines. Others may find that their comfort zone is in their own space where they ha ..read more

Why massage matters for caretakers

Massage therapy is proven to be helpful to those recovering from many health conditions as well as integral for palliative care. One of the most important parts of recovery is a support system and caretakers. It’s so important to remember caretakers also need support and stress relief in order to be effective and healthy. This is so important because it's easy to get burned out as a caretaker if you aren't caring for yourself. It’s a demanding job to care for others, especially when part of those daily tasks may include handling another person's body and moving it. Massage can help individual ..read more

Emma Lani Massage Therapy was privileged to return to the MS 150 Historic New Bern Ride to provide massage to Team CBC for the second year! Team CBC was fantastic to work with and very welcoming towards me and my guest therapist Jamie Kornaharens. Turned Away From Massage: Contraindications and Precaution.
Emma Lani Massage Therapy Blog
by Emma Lani Bufalini

I recently had a handful of people call and tell me the same thing. “I was turned away when I called to set up an appointment.” It wasn’t because they had been to the location and misbehaving but because they had some specific condition such as cancer, pregnancy, or obesity that the facility didn’t want to work on. If it was lack of training or liability I can’t say but it made me sad to know there were people out there being turned away when they needed help the most. I was shocked when I heard this the first time, but since then in the year and a half I’ve been in Indiana, I have had a few o ..read more
