A friend of mine passed recently. His name was Don. He was decorated vet, conservationist, forrester, author, Native American expert, the list goes on. I recently sent an email about camping at Sipsey Wilderness at Bankhead, and the reply I got back was "it's complicated because it's a Wilderness Area, stuck inside a Wildlife management area, stuck inside a national forest". My son and I have done a lot of hiking and camping together, and he's recently taken an interest in bushcraft. While there are many excellent hiking trails and campgrounds in our area, the closest wilderness we've found that permits woodcutting and campfires is Sipsey.
