Due to some wonderful things falling into place I might be moving down to Alabama. Area is not set yet in stone but my brother is talking to a realtor about a piece of property in centre Alabama in Cherokee County. So I was wondering if it is a nice area, how bad the humidity is up that way and such ..read more

Often times he would give survival classes for youth groups, scouts, so on. Don was generous enough to take me on a day hike and show me some local fauna and... Alabama relevant info ..read more

I recently sent an email about camping at Sipsey Wilderness at Bankhead, and the reply I got back was "it's complicated because it's a Wilderness Area, stuck inside a Wildlife management area, stuck inside a national forest". That puts a hold on my plans for camping there for the time being. Any areas in N. AL you know to be carry (concealed) friendly, and any you know to be unfriendly for overnight outings ..read more

Surely there has to be at least a handful of us in the northern part of Alabama! Places like Bankhead and Little River Canyon just call out to people like us. Anyone else from North Alabama? Wondering if some sort of get together would be worth it if there are enough of us ..read more

My son and I have done a lot of hiking and camping together, and he's recently taken an interest in bushcraft. While there are many excellent hiking trails and campgrounds in our area, the closest wilderness we've found that permits woodcutting and campfires is Sipsey. Any recommendations for additional areas we can explore? Thanks in advance ..read more
